• Xbox: NA and EU megaservers for patch maintenance – September 16, 6:00AM EDT (10:00 UTC) - 12:00PM EDT (16:00 UTC)

Items marked red (stealable) should have a failsafe.

A lot of items like weapons or bottles just laying there should at least pop up the loot box (like a chest does) instead of you instantly taking/stealing them.

This will prevent accidental stealing like I tend to do a lot by mistake when using an alchemy table and so on.

There is. In your Settings, just toggle the auto-loot stolen items to OFF.

That only works on containers. Items out in the open are stolen as soon as you press E, or the equivalent console button.

Honestly, I'm not sure this will be much of an issue when DB hits. We are no longer allowed to interact with objects while we are moving. So you will have to be at a stand still to loot dead bodies and open world items. Slowing us down like that will probably make the frequency of accidental steals go down quite a bit.

If you disable this, how are the guards gonna make any money? I'm sure they are in cahoots with merchants and traders who leave these items out in the open making it all to easy to pick up by accident.
Remember red = dead and a dead dd deals no dps.

There is protection from stealing. Turning off auto loot for stealing. Requires multiple actions to steal them. Works great.

This doesn't apply to open world items. They're one-click steals regardless of settings.

I only seem to run into a real issue when trader hopping - especially in Windhelm. It's a trap.

Auto loot is off completely for me and nothing is a one click steal. Nothing.

    Ew, no...
Last thing I want is another button to click when I'm trying to steal things quickly.
