Spent almost 2 hours in vICP yesterday on an alt completing the dungeon with a random group. I have nothing against a random group as long as people tell if they have done the dungeon or not, if there are mechanics they don't know about etc., but that is rarely the case. A lot of people aren't saying a thing about a boss or mechanic they don't know about, which often results in great frustration. This time I had to ask the other people on every boss if they really knew the mechanics, and some time people didn't even answer, they just played along and failed, which lead me to explain everything anyways even if they didn't ask for it.

I really enjoy playing with new players, helping them complete content the same way some guys and girls helped me way back when I was new, but you need to help yourselves as well. If you aren't telling anyone that you don't know the dungeon, how could you possibly get the help and knowledge you need to complete it? A lot of people are complaining that there is an elitist climate (which it sometimes is) with players only wanting to play with other experienced players, but I don't blame them, i sometimes do the same just because of this.

So please, be more open of what you know and not, and ask for help if you need it! Almost everyone I have played with that is really good at this game are really nice, friendly and patient if you ask for help!

I don't mind playing with new players either and I'm glad to help out. Last night I was invited to help a group out. I joined after being told they kept hemorrhaging DDs apparently.

vICP gold pledge: hardest dungeon in the game, attempting hardmode

Tank: First time tanking (why not cut your teeth in Fungal Grotto or Wayrest?) but he was doing okayish, possibly experienced player with new alt.

Damage Dealer 1: Experienced player, no glaring issues

Healer: Sorc - okay I can deal not having a templar even for vICP but zero magicka support provided, I couldn't do my job (Damage Dealing) at all.

I mentioned it, am told: New character, first time healing. (Again: It's great to have more people playing support but get some experience doing your new role in easier content before inflicting the hardest content possible on yourself, especially when hauling a bunch of others in with you). I suggested what skills to slot to help out with magicka: not possible because skills aren't leveled up.

You're v16, a Sorceror (and HEALER to boot) and you don't have even restoration staff leveled up? How do you even get to v16 as a sorceror without getting destruction and restoration staff to level 20? And if you some how leveled up with all melee skills and decided to switch to magicka, why not take 30 minutes and level up skills so you can actually be effective at your new role.

I'm not annoyed by people who don't know mechanics, don't have exact skills slotted or don't have 501 CP or who don't have all gold gear or perfect Best-in-slot gear but at least make some effort to pull your weight in a group activity, especially one you know is challenging and hard.

Oh, I just rocked up to ask if any haxxors could help me get my internets reconnected after moving. It's been a long 10 days with no ESO, and it is making me a *sadface* BeerDude.

Well, I have experienced some who don't communicate and neither say " hi" or "ty 4 grp".

When I am given the crown, I just kick those guys who don't communicate.

You deserve a medal for doing icp with a pug lol.

I finally decided to pug the other day for the rest time. Banished cells. Easy peaty right?

Healer died twice before first boss. I had a dual wield sorc hardcasting frags as my other dd. Tank did ok situationally, but was losing half his bar most big hits. Managed to do it fine, but is only banished cells. Anything harder with a pug... No thanks.

Cant really blame people I suppose. To many stories of people getting kicked for stupid reasons. But it is annoying. We are on the last boss, I just want to finish the dungeon! Just say you have never done it! explaining it to you is much faster then replacing you, no matter what your role.

Haha thanks! I've had good experiences with pugs actually, a lot of people is nice and pretty good at playing, that's often all it takes.

Even with all of the pain that can be involved, I still enjoy doing PUG's. Something about people not having optimal builds is just fun. Maybe for the extra difficulty factor, maybe because I enjoy playing non-optimal builds.
The only bad thing about them is the lack of communication. So many of them are silent (on console) and a lot of the difficulties could be made smaller with a little talk.
Once I was tanking a vet Coldharbour (can't remember the name), never done on vet before and I was tanking two of the early tough mobs while others mopped up the rest. I kept those 2 nice and close to me to avoid splashing damage onto the squishies and the crown had a fit, disbanded the group and then abused me for holding both of them. If he had simply said let the healer go so we can burn it, we probably would have completed the dungeon.
But, obviously, speaking was hard for him and he could only break his silence to abuse someone.

TL;DR talk to ppl in your PUG's. It will make things easier.

i think a lot of people pick up and play the game without researching how certain aspects work. enticed in by the elderscrolls games of old, exploration and adventure. The most common thing i see in new players that are struggling is they hybrid, stam sorcs using frags, heavy armor wearing dps, tanks that use 2H and Bow. Attributes distributed evenly

no one has had the talk with them and told them how certain things work. The hints only foretell certain aspects of the active combat system not the core underlying systems. This is how the majority of players actually begin their game until they learn that they can be vastly better by a few small play style and set up changes.

Everyone wants to be powerful and strong its an MMO character improvement is at its foundation its one of the main pillars driving their addiction. So why is there no loading screen messages explaining some of the baser concepts?

why is it down to the community to tell the guy who just joined the group about to attempt some of the hardest content in the game that he is not suitably equipped to handle the content because he has had no guidance.
