Fishing for Used Bait

I have a question for other folks who fish...does anyone have any trouble getting fish out of the sea around Malabal Tor? The last three days I have tried fishing there, I catch something on the first cast using insect parts, then after that all I get is used bait. It doesn't matter what bait I use or which of the holes I am in along the coast. I have never had this much difficulty catching fish before. Anyone else notice this? Is there something I am missing?

Thanks

I also had this happen in a delve fishing hole last night, too, so it may not be specific to Malabal Tor. Caught a fish the first cast with insect parts and nothing after that. Very frustrating.

I haven't fished over there in a while but got similar experience in a cave in Wrothgar . Since I collected new baits and stopped buying bait off vendors it hasn't happened as often .

    Here's the guide I use

Unless they changed something, it does mater what bait you are using and if you are getting used bait back that is a sign you are using the wrong type of bait for the water you are fishing in.

I completed the fishing achievement for Malabal Tor with no problems. You do have to use the correct bait for the water type though. If it is the sea around it, you are likely looking at ocean and will need to use worms to avoid used bait.

Sometimes it can also be foul water but it won't be very apparent. There might be corpses, debris or rubbish around. Try using crawlers and see what happens

The first Item you caught let you know the water type. Occasionally I'll catch a fish on the wrong type of bait on the first cast. It lets me know what bait I should be using. Guts for lakes, insect parts for rivers, worms for ocean water, and crawlers for foul water. Sometimes you'll catch bait like shad or minnows on the first cast. Shad is caught in lakes, minnows are caught in the ocean, Roe is caught in rivers, and chub is caught in foul water.Shad is used to catch river fish, Roe is used in foul water, minnows for lake fish, and chub for ocean fish. Hope this helps

Yes but foul water is where slaughter fish are most .

I've caught lake fish in places I would have sworn were rivers. A successful catch (not used bait) on the first cast will give you an idea
