So the current way DLCs are brought to market are the following....
Internal alpha testing.
Beta testing on the pts.
A couple weeks later
Paid beta testing on computers.
A month later finally is
The console versions.
By the time the console versions come out ththere's no thrill left to do anything as its all known. So it's pretty much just doing the walkthrough on the path others have been doing for the past two months.... This to me at least just ruins whatever fun there was to have. Sure I could bury my head in the sand like an ostrich but being excited about the game that's hard to do. Why is there a need to have the computer versions out so soon before the consoles. Also having the whole DLC on the pts leaves nothing for players to do that's honestly new.
So two things:
Have DLCs drop all at once
(even if that means ps4 day late)
Stop putting the whole dlc on the pts!!
(which means no paid public testing)
Lastly where's my house???

See, the version on the PTS has to reach version lock before they can ship to MS and Sony for Q&A testing to ensure that it doesnt bug out on consoles. If they find serious probs during the Q&A test, it can set it back a couple more weeks whilst a patch is sent to MS and Sony to get the game working on the consoles properly.
So..ok. The PC version is finalised and it all works well on the PTS. At this point they have to version lock it. Would you then prefer them to hold it on the PTS for upto 4 weeks with no further updates whilst they await MS & Sony to get back to them with a release schedule?
Of course not. The PC crowd would start screaming within hours. So consoles get it 3-4 weeks after PC. It HAS to go on PTS, as its more or less a copy of live, and they need to know if the new DLC will perform correctly under stress-testing conditions with hundreds of players. Also, players are more adept at finding bugs and glitches than the 5 or 6 people in ZOS Q&A.

Isn't it well known final "testing" occurs on PC live servers???
@Bozodog also on FXI sqeenix didn't spoil everything in the upcoming patches or DLC when it did bring new content to the pts... It's like poker show your hand and you're going to know how to play.
@Volkodav as above I see the need for a pts but, to completely release the full dldoc on it for testing is well lazy and it ruins the freshness of content IF they depend that much on it for testing to find bugs.
For instance the thieves guild dlc. You can test mechanics without putting the whole dlc out there. You don't need to test the whole dungeon with bosses and everything on the pts to find out if the basic mechanics work.

Actually, they really do need to add it all so that they can play it every step of the way.Bugs dont occur just within a small part of a DLC or game. They can occur anywhere at any stage. So,they need to find them.
Say they only release a small part of a DLC,which plays fine. Then they release it to the general public to play.Things happen badly that no one saw in the PTS.
Why?
Because it wasnt tested fully to find those things.
What happens then? People go into the forums and go nutz over all the flaws not fixed before release.
(or you might wind up with those purple and pink landscape textures that pop up often in new content)

If only there were things called paid testers, or in-house testing etc. Someone should invent something like that...

Ok so it seems you've never heard of any mmos on consoles before other than ESO...
Final Fantasy XI
was on Ps2, PC, & XBox 360
EVERY UPDATE since service began on those platforms dropped same day and by the way they had a PTS for PC....
FINAL FANTASY XIV
is on Ps3, Ps4, PC and Mac
Wait for it.... all drop same day.
Theres also a newer multi platform game called The Division
It's on Xbox One, Ps4, and PC all drop same day.
So no I can't buy into the console companies holding patches back for the games when other games have and still have patches drop across all platforms.
Like I said I can't hide my head in the sand I check multiple mmo news sites multiple times daily for the newest tidbits on the games I play and just in general. I also Google said games ie eso almost daily for info although I have to go past the eso satellite news. I played rpgs since I first picked up a controller for the SNES when I was a kid. I played the Zeldas, the final fantasies, but when I found the elder scrolls I truly found my RPG! I love eso call me a fan boy don't care but I'm just saying when ya know what the girl is like why take a trip around the bases???
Yeah, SqEnix must hold back the PC release in order to drop updates on the same day. First party certification for console takes about two weeks, and nothing can be changed during that time, otherwise it would need to be certified again. There is a reason Final Fantasy dropped at the same time. Square Enix has a history of favoring consoles over PC (I am looking at FF, Kingdom Hearts, TWEWY etc).Bonzodog01 wrote: »Ok, so it seems some people here do not know about the console Q&A testing process.
