Don't give up on guilds. I have 5 great guilds, and wish I had more slots.
I've met so many helpful people- crafters who help with research, people willing to donate or exchange mats, skilled players happy to run dungeons and teach the ropes...
If you're on PC/NA, feel free to message me. If not, check the guild forums and give it another shot!
dark elf nightblade screams magicka nb as it is currently the strongest race for it, it works just fine for stamina too thought honestly, you can check out my build on tf if u want, its geared more towards non min/max players. there are some hints for leveling, skill ideas, etc as well as different armor sets taht work well with magicka build. if your wanting to do stam, someone else can chime in as i havent played stam on mine in almost a year. here is the link and feel free to ask questions if u need help

Thanks for the input liv3mind! I've looked at your site and build. That looks to be very helpful. Much appreciated!

I assume you wear medium armor, so focus on researching that with clothing and focus on researching weapons with blacksmithing and woodworking.

Like liv3mind said. Advice on build really depends on where you have put your attribute points. If majority are in magicka, then check out his build. Personally my NB (also a dunmer) started out as stamina, I ended up switching to magicka to be able to fill more roles for dungeons. But you don't have to worry about that.
For now all i will say is this. Start researching traits in crafting right away, even if you change your mind about crafting you lose nothing and takes less than 2 mins to figure out and start. Woodworking, blacksmithing and clothier take time to level, just deconstruct all the junk gear you find or are finished with as you go. And most importantly, if you are set on becoming a crafter, do the daily writs (they are the little crafting missions you find on the boards in all the major towns and can be completed once per day).
Finally, try to find a nice social guild, the ability to straight up ask other players in game advice on pretty much anything is the most valuable resource i can think of. There is a sub-forum at the bottom of the forums tab listing guild searches separated by platform and region.

You should also look some more for good guilds. Don't look for guilds that focus on trade. Look for one that focuses on playing together. There are plenty of friendly and helpful guilds on PC where you can chat about builds over Teamspeak.
I am a pretty mediocre player. One key thing I have learned from reading forums is to understand the buffs that you get from your skills. You want to make sure you keep buffs active by reusing the skills that buff you when the buff runs out. Also, if you are a NB, understand which skills benefit from being in stealth/cloaked. In general, it is good to know which skills work well together and what order they need to be used in to get the best effect. It also takes practice to be on top of your buffs (and enemy debuffs).
Hey Guys!
Here's the run down. Love the game but there's so much to learn and do that it's sometimes hard to keep up with it all. Especially if you don't play everyday or are as experienced as the veterans are at these RPGMMO's. I find myself as the Veteran Newbie who enjoys all aspects of the game but still have so much to earn. Early on when I started ESO, I thought I could learn from better players from a Guild but once I went through the process and joined, I never received a welcome or good luck or anything. Just the Guild wanting money etc. So no help there. I then just struck out on my own, doing things my way as a loner I guess. Trying desperately on how things worked but still to no avail. I've learned some things but still need tons of guidance and help to better my character and the way I play.
My Character Is:
Race: Dark Elf
Class: Nightblade
Champ Rank: 84
Alliance: Ebonheart Pact
Werewolf
Boon: The Lady
Level 2 Veteran
My fighting Style is just try and cut down what I can and help out in anyway I can when I see others in need of help. I've worked my way to Level 2 Vet. on my own by just doing the quests. I'm now in Cadwell's Silver Main Story Line. I haven't done many dungeons and definitely not and PVP since I'd get my hind end handed to me in both of those scenarios. But still I'd like to try and learn. I know there are some Vet players who just don't enjoy playing with more inexperienced players and I get that to an extent. Your only as strong as your weakest link. Still I have found a few players here and there that don't mind lending a hand. Even if they don't speak. Haha!
I've researched other players builds and tried them but still can't wrap my head around certain things. I'd like to have a stealthy assassin character that can mow down the villains of the world, sure! I'd also like to start crafting and really get in to making better gear rather than hoping I would get a better drop from what I currently have. My mistake was I didn't get into crafting until just now. So I really don't know what the best way and maybe even a quicker way to level the crafting abilities up would be for my current level. I've worked hard and getting my character up to where it is now but I think I've failed in leveling certain areas that will help me progress even further without always getting smashed.
So with all that said, I am asking the incredibly experienced Veterans of our world for any help and guidance in what I can or should do to make my character better and hopefully one day get to a level where you are at.
Thanks so much for your time and effort. It really is appreciated!

no problem, i mess around on xbone sometimes (its where i play solo and for sheer enjoyment instead of min maxing) and have a lvl 45 magicka templar. i wouldnt mind hopping on some evening and chatting about it, but i dont have any guilds there.
It's hard when you first start out, the best thing I can offer is to always be friendly. I've met a lot of really great guild-mates from just roaming around in areas I didn't know what I was doing in and being friendly and courteous to the people there. Often people will recognize good behavior and invite you to join them in their dailies/groups/runs/trials etc. and be happy to teach you as well.
People can teach game mechanics, they can't teach good sportsmanship. From your post you seem like a pretty awesome player and one that a lot of guilds would be happy to welcome.
If you are on PC NA i'm in a few great EP guilds that would be happy to welcome a player like you and give some help. Send me a message in game or on forums and I'll hook you up with an invite or two to get you started.

Are you on PC EU? Because I'd love to play with you!
Deconstruct every gear and runes you get (and don't need) and get enough skill points to spend for crafting. Then start doing the writs. And always have your research slots filled up.
Level up all (weapon) skill lines and every skill while questing. Just put for example a dual wield skill on your 2h bar. The exp gain will also increase your dual wield bar. Level the skill lines up that way and level each skill up to be morpheable. Spares you a lot of hassle later on.
I joined a big PvE guild and they taught me everything I needed to know about the game. Then it's just about practice.
Same goes for PvP. Join a guild, run with them. You'll learn over time and depending on your commitment of course.
Learn about animation canceling (important for end game content and PvP).
Watching youtube videos of PvPers also help improve.

I like making my guild mates their first armour sets and weapons and we've got elders who help out by making food and potions etc. Message Jimbullbee for an invite if you want
Bump - a really well written post deserves the help of the community!
In one word (technically)
sap-essence+siphoning-attacks
Sneaky assassin is the most fun on nightblade, but sometimes you need (or want) to destroy a huge mob, and sap essence buffs you, heals you, damages them, and siphoning attacks lets you keep doing it. You'll reap XP and most guild traders sell gear at vet 16 level, meaning you can get buy without crafting.
TheUrbanWizard wrote: »I keep trying to get my brother into the game and he just keeps saying it's too complicated!
I just wish he'd stick at it for a while and he'll realise it really isn't.
OP, after a few weeks or so it's just like riding a bike. I didn't play for a while after release, but when I fancied another go all my skill points were reset and I was like WTF!
Now I'm lvl 50 in clothing, b'smith and w'work, many SP in passives but I want more!
This forum is helpfull for questions, even if the answers seem obvious.
Once you get going in crafting you wont want to stop!

But seriously, the best advice I can give you, and it's something you've already started with the right attitude, FEEL the game out. Trial and error, do anything and everything, and TRY everything. There is SO much time to use perfecting your playstyle, and that's what you should be focusing on, not your class, not the meta, you.
One of the big things that separates the players we envy and the players running the exact same builds and raging like an army of individual rebels is the fact that the players we envy took their time and learned their classes inside and out, and learned to apply that to their playstyle. Don't form your playstyle around your class, do it the other way around.
Focus on having fun, take every opportunity you get, and give the haters the bird.
Good luck!

Thanks Wollust! I'll definitely look into that on the guilds and great info on the leveling. Question. Can you explain the 2h bar? I'm so ignorant in a lot of these things but with help I can learn.
