Breton for stamina or tanking Templar?

slowpoke68
Hi there. New player but really starting to enjoy the game.

I've rerolled about 12,000 times so far and need to get down to business.

I have a level 10 Templar I made who is a Breton. One of the first toons I made and knew virtually nothing about mechanics.

I see myself more as playing as a heavy armor wearing stamina based fighter. Even looking at tanking with sword and board.

I really don't want to reroll yet again, so wondering if my race choice is just a complete bust or if Breton Tank/Stamplar is doable.

Thanks for any input...read a thread about magika templars and got me thinking.

if magicka based breton is a solid choice, stamina not so much.

You want to be a magicka tank then, it doesn't mean you have to go light armor you can still go 5 Heavy / 2 Light, or 5 Heavy / 1 Light /1 Medium. Most of your attacks will use magicka, saving your stamina for taunting, blocking, and roll dodge. The benefit of a magicka tank is that you can spam your abilities more frequently without having to do the stamina dance. Being a templar you have access to a few drop and go self heals like Puncturing Sweep, Restoring Aura, Cleansing Ritual, and Rune Focus. Restoring Aura morphed into Repentance is an awesome stamina recovery especially on bosses that have trash spawns, if you use it immediately after they die you get back health and stamina before the bodies despawn; long boss fights with trash are more sustainable.

Stamina DPS, horrible. Tanking, very good.

As others have said if you want to do a Breton Templar tank you are better going a magicka tank. If you are open to trying something else you could also try out a magicka healer with a Breton Templar.

It isn't the easiest tanking set up to begin with being a magicka Temp tank but I have seen some impressive end game versions. If you want an easier stam tank/DPS build I would recommend going a Redguard or Imperial DK.

My Breton Templar is magicka and uses 1h and shield and can tank, heal and dps, I just change her clothes depending on what she feels like doing that day

Thanks for the input guys. Have spent my first week playing fooling around with different race and class combos. Lots of fun, but am always out of deletes for the day :)

Will have to think more about it I guess.

Wasn't that wild about the game when I first tried it last year, but gave it another go and am really getting into it now.

Need to start seeing content that is above level 10 though haha.

I can see a caster Breton being very powerful, but I kind of want to melee and snb on my first toon I think.

I would suggest you go for an Imperial. Imperial is one of the best races for stamina DPS as well as tanking, so if you wanted to do both eventually, it's hands-down the best choice.

I recomend dark elf DK or nightblade. Only class with max magic and stamina so you can try tanking both ways in end game and be fine.

Magic DK and Nightblades are the most fun tanks to play!

    Cheers!

Think I will stick with my Breton and keep playing him. I had my attributes spread out all over so I went to that Church and respecced. Put everything into magika and will see how it goes.

    Thanks again all.
