Stam DK: 5 medium + 2 light?

I've played stamina builds for a few different classes now, and recently respecced my magicka DK to stamina to give it a try (looking forward to the new morphs in DB). I notice, however, that the dragonknight requires magicka abilities a lot more than other classes to support the stamina attacks. I use reflective scales, igneous weapons, talons, etc. all fairly often, and even empowering chains as a gap closer.

While sacraficing 2 medium for a couple pieces of light would mean losing some crit and stamina cost reduction, I'm wondering if it's worthwhile to have the extra magicka benefits - and whether or not I should bother putting any attribute points or champion points towards magicka (mostly cost reduction or recovery) as well?

There are a few skills you can replace, for example Rally for Igneous Weapons and Stampede/Crit Rush for Empowering Chains. This will increase your healing and dmg at the cost of stamina.

On stam DKs Igneous Shield is also very useful due to the 5% stam return and major mending buff. This boosts healing with Rally and Vigor by 30% for 6 seconds.

Depending on your race and CP I would go for 6 medium/1 heavy or 5 medium/1 heavy/1 light. The 5/1/1 setup is nice on DKs because it means you will get more resources back when you use your ultimate.

The CP for regen or cost reduction depends if you want to focus on pvp or pve. In pvp the stam regen is usually above 2k so it pays of to put 2/3 into regen and 1/3 into cost reduction. For pve regen is a lot lower so 2/3 into cost reduction and 1/3 into regen would be better.

Wanting to stick to dw/shield/bow, I already use 2h on my other Stam characters, hence the igneous. Similar issue with crit rush.

    Go 5m/1l/1h.

And BTW Stamblades use magicka skills more than any other stamina class.

Maybe in pvp, my stamblade hardly uses magicka though, never even need shadowy disguise for regular play.

If you're going to be a DPS stick to a Stamina focused spec, you'll dilute you're build's strength elsewise. Just find alternatives for a few of the Magicka skills. Bombard could replace Talons if you using a bow. You can get Major Brutality from pots. Frankly you don't need a gap closer for most PVE content. I only use Scales in PVP and VMSA.

I've always heard if stamina go 7 medium, is this still true? Or has things shifted where a Stam user should be 5-1-1 or 5-2?

Depends. 5/1/1 gives 6% max stats from Undaunted passives (small light and heavy armor passives). 7 Medium gives more roll dodge/sprint speed/cost reduction/crit/ect.

I've always preferred going 7 medium on my stam builds.

Mainly because i'm too lazy to go level another undaunted up.

But the extra regen/reduction/dodge roll reduction etc.. really helps.

I have every character level 50, both a magicka and stamina version.
