Considering rerolling my Magicka Templar

sutasafaia
Basically my first serious (meaning actually got past 10) character, invested ~50,000 gold and 50 hours into it. Not much by many peoples standards, a ton for a new player though. Will seriously miss the bag space and recipes if I reroll...honestly the investment is the only thing making me reconsider it.

But anyway, made some mistakes while leveling, skill points kind of wasted, stuff like that. I could just respec but I've been more tempted to reroll the character. I have a rerolling problem, I already know this, this was more than likely my 15th character before give or take. Anyway, lots of questions because I would really like to not keep rerolling. Some of these are going to be subjective, that's fine, I want opinions :)

1: Race: Breton and Altmer seem to be the biggest ones. Is one really flat out better than the other? I personally like Breton better but I'm curious if there's a 100% better choice.

2: Armor Gearing: Some say all light, some say 5 light 1 med 1 heavy for the undaunted passive. Which is better? Do you get more benefit from the passive vs the extra bonuses for having two more pieces of light?

3: Weapon Gearing: Dual Wielding is a goal purely for the passive. While leveling, do you recommend going with DW from level 1? Or should you start with a staff for the magicka regen? Long term the guides seem to say DW/Resto or DW/Destro, which is better? And which to start leveling first?

4: Crafting: Start ASAP or hold off a bit? At least in early game, you basically seem to have the choice of focusing combat, focusing crafting, or being mediocre at both. Is one way preferable to the other?

5: Nicest faction: By nice, I mean which faction has quests that don't make you feel like an arse. I can do any race/faction. I know that eventually you do all three but I want to at least start with the nicer faction. Note that I don't mean 'good guys' or anything like that, I simply don't like playing an arse. Think Forsaken in WoW, their quests had you doing some seriously cruel stuff. Yea, I'm a softie...sue me.

6: PvP: I tend to avoid this completely, but which faction would be the easiest to just slip in, grab the skyshards, and get out? Does it even make much difference? I want to do the PvE portions of the PvP zone so it might matter. Who knows, maybe I'll even end up liking PvP in this game? I'm on PC, since I think servers are split by console?

7: Should I even reroll to begin with?

If I'm missing anything or you want to toss anything else in, feel free. I'm always open to hearing whatever and could always use more advice. Thanks in advance!

Don't reroll. That's an easy win.

    1. You can't go wrong with Breton, Altmer, or Dunmer.
    2. Depends. For an endgame build with 2 in undaunted mettle, probably 5/1/1. If you're leveling skill trees, 5/1/1. Otherwise? 7/0/0
    3. I'd say start with staff, at least for 15 levels. DW/Destro... just don't, though Destro/DW is good. DW/Resto also works pretty well. Personally I would go Destro/DW or Destro/Resto.
    4. Past the first 15 or so levels you should have enough skill points for everything. Not sure what you mean by "mediocre at both". Definitely start deconstructing as soon as possible though.
    5. The faction main questline is generally all pretty 'nice'-ish but each makes the others look bad.
    6. No idea.
    7. You really shouldn't reroll unless you have to change your race and faction.

Why do you want to reroll versus respec?

As for #6, it varies by campaign and day and server. I'd put Cyrodiil skyshards on the back burner and do them last.

My main is a magicka templar. I love this class, the damage output is amazing.
    1. I'd go with Altmer for well rounded, it will have less sustain than Breton, but more damage. As it stands now though your sustain should be just fine on an altmer.
    2. 5 light 1 Medium 1 Heavy is endgame and is not changing in any foreseeable future.
    3. You should level DW, Resto and Destro lines (I would do them all, but thats me). Right now there are builds that run Destro mainbar and DW offbar or the other way around. It is personal preference. I have seen no indication that one performs better than the other. DW is used for the passive as well as the extra spell damage you get, but staff gives you free weaves. You should only run resto if you are healing content. For solo play puncturing sweep should be fine (with the exception of Maelstrom Arena, where you will need healing ward). For PVP there are many options, but if you plan to do lots of it I would also level up sword and shield in case you ever decide to go with it.
    4. You should start crafting right away. I disagree that it negatively impacts you in any way. Just decon all the items you find that you are not using and store the materials in your bank or alts. Your character will level up his crafting skills and it won't require extra effort. It will save you a lot of money in the long run. Also try to research traits whenever you are able, since they take a long time to finish.
    5. All factions have a mix, but I am biased towards Dagger fall covenant.
    6. All factions at some point during the week possess the map, so you will get plenty of chances to get all your skyshards.
    7. No resolving, waste of time and money invested!
