Would you like to have "Yield" option for accidental NPC attacks?

First of all, i am fully aware of the setting that prevents me from hitting friendly NPC's.

But for me and maybe some of you, its not an option but a way to make game less immersive. Accidents happen and there are places where you do quests and there are NPC's attacking with hostile NPC's, both are targetable. Sometimes the hostile NPC might stumble or do something else that just makes the friendly being target instead by accident and then we have a problem, i cant yield. Running away works but in many places, running is not an option, there are too many hostile NPC's and then there might be guards too.

Besides in any case, it feels stupid that you cant even try to yield, perphaps pay the ampount of bounty to that NPC as compensation for injury.

In my thinking, justice system could be improved to point where yielding is possible.

How do you feel?

I see no reason not to have such an option, but wouldn't remotely consider it a priority for scarce developer resources.

Would be nice to add it  It really would add to the overall experience of the game :)

This is a good idea but sometimes my accidents lead in an npc's death. Have you ever dropped an accidental Dawnbreaker or Meteor in town? I know i have.

I do agree though. Sometimes i hit npcs with a random bow light attacks and get a big bounty.

I remember sheathing weapon in TES series traditionally was intent to yield, not all accepted it though and it was fine by that way as it felt "real". Not all can be reasonable if you accidentally hit them :)

I hate when I accidentally hit a low NPC and they just start swinging at me over and over. They can't kill me. My regen is greater than their damage. My only option is to kill them or run. I don't like running from someone that can't kill me and I don't want to raise my bounty higher by killing them. A third option of "stop hitting me, it's accomplishing nothing" would be something I'd like.

I can't count the number of times I've accidently try targeted a friendly, the enemy gets knocked down at the perfect time. I fully get there is the toggle for this, but there is no way to add the but without sounding like a serial killer.

I'm completely for immersive gameplay, but that doesn't mean I'm above turning the option to attack friendlies off. There are more than enough accidental, jittery moments already for me when I'm trying to jump but a lockbox just happens to be in the way ect. If I can safely get through a town getting all my business done without accidentally throwing an Aurora Javelin at a Guard then that's great.

Someone doesn't understand the definition of "accidental".

I think you should not only have to pay off the person you attacked, you should also get retain your wanted level and bounty.

Yes, pay a compensation/bribe/whatever to NPC you accidentally hit and retain bounty but retain the original bounty you had before attacking that NPC. If guards were not to kill you on sight before the accident, they still wont attack you on sight so you can just go to guard and pay off the bounty... If you are a serial killer or incompetent thief with too much bounty... Then that bounty also stays and you still get to be killed by guards if they see you.

    On a more serious note...
Yeah, it would be nice to have -some- option to yield, so as to not add murder to your bounty for killing the citizen who attacks you for the more or less accidental theft when you stumbled over your own two feet and in an desperate attempt to save your face from kissing the pavament reached out just to have your hand slip into their purse...

Just look at the vexed NPC, and tap your synergy button or something for the option - should not be too hard to implement.

Then your character raises his hands, combat ends, a guard appears and collects the bounty for the theft... gives you a stern warning not to slip again, and life goes on.

    Hey there, lovely comic ;D

The cases i wish this option the most are the incidents when there are targettable NPC's and quest enemies fighting, too often i accidentally hit the friend in these places. We proceed finishing the enemy off in team, then he/she starts killing me and it just feels so wrong.

But as i also play a thief character, when someone sees me taking their stuff to safer place (They forgot that Aldmeri wartoy to that table and somebody could have stolen it!) and they see me doing this and mistake me as a thief and they attack me, i wish i could just pay something to them or that i could let tjhem call that guard and pay off the bounty instead of being killed or kill the poor man/woman. Cant escape houses :(

I also wish that when someone sees me trespsassing and they warn me that they will call a guard, that they wouiold really call that5 guard and guard would really appear. I also wish those poor citizens could sleep and leave their homes to some scripted daily routine. I love planning heists based on peoples timetable i8nstead of just everyone stays indoors the whole time (Or outdoors).

As a NB, just cloak a few times and they go back to their business, with a bounty, but small comparably.

Now, how about the removing of the stealable fruit placed right behind guild traders, providing an instant bounty.

    Agreed with all of those.
BtW, houses can be escaped if you manage to leave combat by not getting hit for a couple seconds. Best way is going invisible, either by nightblade, or potion. Sometimes you can also stun an attacker in the other corner of thr house, dash to the door, and make it out before they recover and reach you to hit you again...

Well in real life you generally aren't carrying around a sword and have a finger slip, hit a button, and stab someone. Sooo... not a good analogy.

In real life if the guards kill you, your not coming back. My point was, it doesn't matter if it's a mistake or not, in the game you just maimed someone, why should they be lenient. Is not like there are real consequences, if you do mistakenly attack someone.

Have some accountability for your actions.

That is actually the reasonable response. And the police will then give you the choice to drop the sword, surrender and accept your punishment, or shoot you as deranged maniac.

BtW, the last time I accidentally injured someone with a sword, they did accept my apology... and no, I am not joking here. Though it was quite a while ago...

Murdering you because they caught you taking their apple on the other hand... that is generally frowned upon in civilized society, even for law enforcement personel. ;)

Personally I have stealing enabled, but am careful... and in all the time since the justice system, I have only twice messed up and comitted a crime without meaning to. Once an accidental steal, once an accidental assault. The first I just walked up to a guard and paid my fine. The second (which was one of those "attackable NPCs loitering near enemy mobs, and pressing "charge" -just- as I noticed the white aura" things), I just dodge-rolled, ran, and then walked up to a guard to pay my fine, avoiding adding murder to my characters rep sheet.
So all those "waaaaa, I messed up and had to pay a bounty" cries fall on deaf ears here.
I still would like to have a "yield" option. If only for roleplaying purposes. ;)

If some NPC starts beating on you for taking what you want or "accidentally" setting them on fire, either walk away to a guard if you're feeling weak, or just help their suicide attempt along, it doesn't increase your bounty much if they start the fight.

When I'm annoyed by NPC dialog or that they're filthy orcs, I just steal openly in front of them until they attack, then put them down.

What baffles me is, NPCs often don't get mad if you kill their friends or family. Jerk picks a fight with me over who owns a lockbox, I put him down, his wife just says "That's so rude. Would you leave?" Tamriel is a cruel place.

I once accidentally (honest!) stole something in a bank. The bank teller decided to attack me and as my char had the no combat with NPCs setting switched on there was nothing I could do to defend myself. I couldn't even walk out the door, while the teller's pathetic fisticuffs had no impact on my char.

I ended up having to go into settings, while still being punched in the face, change the no combat setting and swat the teller.

A simple "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to steal your apple, here's 50 gold" button would have saved a lot of time.

They could also solve the problem by putting a timer on how long people will attack you for. Say 30 seconds. If you accidentally steal, take your beating like a man and walk away. Just have to survive till they are done beating on you.

Yielding was possible in both Oblivion and Skyrim, so it would certainly be considered a "standard" for Elder Scrolls. The Oblivion method would work better than the Skyrim one, as it involves action rather than inaction, which is probably easier for the server to trace.

Sometimes I wish there was an in-character "opt out" for my honest characters for the crime stuff...
Like... going furry makes you immune to getting sucky, there could be a special "honest people" guild you could join (Guard Deputy? Paladin? Follower of Stendarr? Iron Wheel Recruit? Whatever...) that makes your character incapable of entering outlaw refugees, picking up stolen stuff, opening thieves troves, or picking pockets... (and maybe a special "search warrant" item for the few quests where you have to trespass - only usable by those people, opens the door without need for lockpicks)
I'd enjoy that, seeing how half my characters are goodie-two-greaves.
