Typing in all Caps is interpreted to be YELLING at people. This convention as been around since ASCII Extended and the original BBS type of Boards way back in the ancient late 1970's and early 1980's. We used to type in all lower case because that was usually all we had in the 60's and 70's. Not all systems supported 8 bit, so they defaulted to lower case.
