One of the main reasons for the poor PVP performance and framerate, in my experience, is the amount of characters that are loaded on the screen. This is a performance issue in any crowded area of the game, but the fast pace of PVP combat makes it far more aggravating.
Many MMOs out there have a couple of way to improve performance. One of the most notable ones is to restrict character customization to four or so body types. Of course, that doesn't fit ESO, but there's an alternative I thought about:
Alliance Uniforms. A cosmetic override of your current armor, proudly showing your alliance colors.
If all characters in PVP wore the same outfit, the server and client would not need to load hundreds of armor meshes and textures, instead, just load the character customization and a handful of outfits. (Perhaps you could have three cosmetic options, based on what type of armor you're wearing)
This could potentially improve the gameplay experience as well, as all players would be wearing their corresponding colors.
What do you think? Could this work in ESO? Would it be a worthwhile change, or just make us look less fashionable?
