Asking someone or someone asking you to be their friend, what's the deal?

Hi Guy's

Much like it says in the title really, what I want to know is, is their some benefit in being listed as being someone's friend?.

I play on PS4, when I first started this game, at the beginning of last year, I was asked by a few guy's if they could list me as a friend. I said yeah ok and thought no more about it. However, every time those 'Friends' come online, PlayStation bigs it up and tells me..."Your friend is online", even when they are playing in a different game?! I find this irritating and annoying, but try as I may it seems once you've accepted someone as a friend you can't un-accept them.

Unless you know different

You can either block them or remove as friend, alternatively you can simply turn notifications off.

A lot of games have built in console friend lists so in the case of ESO, when you want to send mail or invite to group, you can simply go to friends and use that option rather than searching for their PSN through console's own search criteria. It also allows easy grouping in to parties.

    Hi Sunburnt_Penguin

"You can either block them or remove as friend, alternatively you can simply turn notifications off"

Are you talking about playing on PS4?

"when you want to send mail or invite to group, you can simply go to friends and use that option rather than searching for their PSN through console's own search criteria. It also allows easy grouping in to parties."

I see, however, I have to say that none of those 'friends' have ever asked for my help or called me to arms. Generally I play the game as a loner as in life. At such times that I need help to defeat a boss, I just hang around till a group turns up and tag along. I've never asked anyone to be my friend, although I've asked many to team up for a dungeon. The response is always the same...'This person is already in a group'.

Yes I'm on PS4 myself and you can do those things. You can also "appear offline" (this was added ~1month ago) if you don't wish to be bothered.

For the majority of content in ESO, I can find players in the world who want to do it at that specific time so if I see "friends" online who are in the middle of something I won't bother them. Unless it's something which I either can't find people for or it's something challenging that requires decent teamwork then I'll message and sort something out.

If you would like people to play with there are plenty of PvE and PvP guilds which you can join which is the easiest way of finding players.

    Hi

"If you would like people to play with there are plenty of PvE and PvP guilds which you can join which is the easiest way of finding players."

I've been invited to join guilds on many occasions, but I've never accepted. Mainly because I generally play on weekday afternoons. From 2 pm till approx 5.30 to 6 pm and it has to be said, I usually see virtually no-one before 4. I'm VR16 High Elf, Sorcerer and at the moment I'm in Wrothgar, I've done everywhere else except Cyrodiil and the Imperial City.

I've never played PVP, it doesn't really appeal, although I guess once I enter Cyrodiil and the Imperial City, I almost certainly will have to, at some stage. At the moment though I'm a bit suck, as there is one place (Old Orsinium) and one boss (Urfon Ice-Heart) I'm struggling to complete/defeat.

I met some really good friends on ESO. It all started by a friends invite.

You could look for a guild which is predominantly made up of players 5 hours ahead of you which would be their peak time. Obviously language may be an issue depending on your location.

However, you may be surprised how many are online in a normal guild at that time. It could also help you sell valuable items through the guild store and earn some gold.
