Thieves trove -- ALWAYS "visible"

When I find a thieves trove, I sneak so I become hidden. Then the visibility indicator is flat, meaning I am not seen by anybody. Then when I press E to open the chest, I immediately become fully visible. (Not when I take the contents, but immediately on opening the chest). If somebody is nearby at that moment you become disreputable, etc. What this means in effect is that one can NEVER be truly hidden when opening one of these things. Surely this is not behaving as intended.

I've been 'hidden' when picking a locked chest in the middle of a city, surrounded by people. Then I become visible again, steal, and yet I don't get a bounty. I believe it is the chest/trove/activatable container that actually spots you. I know that sounds dumb, but in my head it explains it.

Interacting with objects takes you out of stealth. Doesn't matter if chest, trove, picking up a quest item or harvesting resources. Getting a bounty depends on being seen by a npc. If you are behind a npc you don't need to crouch, of course it's good to determine if you are safe. If you are hidden, nobody sees you (at that moment). You can't hide = someones watching you.

Its the same with chests, strongboxes, and troves. When you have to actually open them, you stand up and are seen.Always has been this way.

I find them every day.At least two of them.Sometimes three,if I am lucky. They're around/Just look in wrecked ships,in Khenarthi's Roost,in different places all around. I am such an exlporer that I roam every inch of everywhere. XD
Not to find troves per se,as they are fairly new,but for chests, and other things. It rewards me to do so.And it is fun just to see what is behind that rock,or what is in that nook or cranny.

Yeah, always been that way, but it's still and always has been stupid.

Always find it odd when I hear this because I find several daily while questing; I've seen several other players run right past them... so either they don't have TG access or they are completely clueless as to what these actually are. I also think that because the blue glow is similar to that of an enchantment node, many players assume that it's an enchantment node and don't bother going to investigate.

I agree,it IS stupid.I was taking a trove in Abah's Landing, hidden, and when I stood up someone way on the other side of a fire saw me and I got a fine for it.

Well, not as bad as standing in Vulkhel Guard bank area and noticed I had a 'large shipment' in my inventory, I opened it and was immediately "stopped" by a guard... All I did was open the container which had already been in my inventory. Yeah, I didn't give up my loot... it's pretty easy to escape from guards, thankfully when they chase you up stairs they don't know how to jump over balconies. ;)

I check just 17 locations in all 3 alliance zones, which are all near cities, and I get in average 2 troves from checking those, which I basically check on my normal routine of crafting and checking guild traders. Items, edicts and sellable loot are found in those at about an equal rate. So within a week I can expect 2 nice items, twice edicts and twice sellable stuff. And this just while "passing by", not even doing something special to find them.

Edit: well, I have to add, that I do not play every day, but about every other - that is why it takes me a week.

It has not always been this way. Sorry, but you are mistaken. True, you stand up briefly, but you don't become unhidden, or detected merely because you open something.

Below is an album of screenshots of me after having opened some containers, like safeboxes (which require lockpicking), wardrobes, barrels, trunks, sacks, etc. In all of these I remain hidden. But the thieves troves do not behave like this. You ALWAYS become "detected" as soon as you open a thieves trove, so this is indeed inconsistent behavior.

If I can open a gigantosaurus trunk while undetected, I should be able to do so with a tiny thieves' trove.

It does say "Steal" instead of "Loot" or "Take" in the dialogue box, so I always assumed it would get me a bounty if I did it in public. Guess my paranoia paid off.
