From the lag to endless loading screens, I've experienced my fair share of poor server performance. However!! Today, while in the midst of a large battle between DC and EP on the Trueflame NA PC server, I crashed. Bad. I tried to log back on, but the game kept kicking me back to the log in screen. Yeah, I've crashed before in battles, but never had such issues getting back on like that. Zenimax, you guys need to invest in better servers for your campaigns, especially the 30-day campaigns. You guys get plenty of money from your users with ESO plus, crown store, and DLC. Use that money to make your game better.

A lot of other people in the community have said multiple times and the lag has something to do with the netcode and not the hardware. But no official response has been made from zos to back up this claim.

I've heard that it's the server that's making all the trouble, but I could be wrong. Zenimax seriously needs to get their schitte together and invest in more powerful servers for pvp.

I cannot say whether the issue is code or hardware based, but I can say that throwing hardware at a code issue will not necessarily fix the issue. It can help but the issue remains, this is what's known as a band-aid fix.

As a armchair technician myself I would ask them if they first tried turning them off and the on again first . Hopefully someone also reset the servers router .

All kidding aside , I'm not certain if it's a hardware , software or code issue so I'm just shooting at crickets in the dark guessing .

Its not going to happen, nothing short of instancing Cyrodiil is going to have any effect.

the way ESO Combat is set up (no cooldowns on abilities) you can have everyone spamming AOE or what else.

So two 24 man groups collide you have:

    1. Each person using AOE that can hit 24 people
    2. Only 6 people take full damage
    3. Other 18 take half damage
    4. Server has to calculate damage taken _ armor/spell resist
    5. Server has to calculate damage taken - Champ system Passives
    6. Server has to calcuate damage taken/received due to class/passives
    7. It then has to do this again 48 times
    8. All while servicing other requests going on elsewhere on the map.

Simply put, your probably looking at 200-300 thousand interrupt requests per second on the server these ball groups at last Emp keeps, etc put on the server...they simply can't handle it.

there isn't server hardware on the planet that can handle what amounts to DDOS conditions...the more you press those buttons the worse you make it....thats what a DOS its a "Denial of Service" the players are creating "Denial of Service conditions" by stacking everyone in one place and everyone pushing buttons trying to get the server to respond.

Outside of cutting Cyrodiil into 4 pieces of a pie with each piecing being independent in terms of resources just like Cyroiiil delves and the IC is, the only other thing they can do is put cooldowns on abilities.

Putting Cooldowns on abilities would drastically reduce server load...if you can only cast that PBAOE once every 3 seconds instead of mashing it repeatedly over and over and over, the server just might actually have time to serverthe requests its sent and hop on to the next one.

However, ESO no cool down on abilities is just ripe conditions to overload their servers, your not going to get hardware that can handle those kinds of requests....if you understood how things are abstracted out at the hardware level

In the case of ESO server:
    • Network card receives traffic
    • Sends interrupt to CPU
    • CPU services interrupt request.
    • CPU sends request to Network Driver(Interupt Handler)
    • Interrupt Handler uses CPU to translate request(tell it what to do next)
    • Finishes servicing request

The amount of hardware you would have to throw together just to even hope to come close to servicing some 200-330K interrupt requests per second would be absurd...it would literally cost more then ZOS and Bethesda's total Capital Expenditures...your talking something along the lines of military computer expenditures in the upwards of millions of dollars.

Its clear that ZOS over sold their product, hey it happens they made a mistake there. Its very obvious from the game design that:

Group dungeons are limited to 4 man
Trials are limited to 12 man

there is a reason trials are never more then 12....because internally shortly after launch they determined the hardware simply won't scale smoothly beyond 12 people + all the AOE and everything else from the PVE mobs....12 is that magic number once everything has been unlocked and all the passives and such...it is what it is....the only reason 100v100 worked early on was:

    1. No one had any passives at all, most folks were level 10-20 in the early days
    2. There was no pain trains running around Cyrodiil spamming PBAOE until much later hence the early days of Angry Joe and such the game worked.
    3. There was no Champion system layer and a whole new slew of server calcs added on what they already had.

Want a playble Cyrodiil? Either cut it into 4 independent pie slices that still allows you to see action on the map, or put in cooldowns...one or the other..its obvious at this point your not going to fix it any other way unless your willing to drastically alter game design....however altering that game design would probably make a game no one wants to play.

i sure don't want no ability cooldowns. I would quit for sure if they added cooldowns,. but i wouldn't be against them instancing Cyrodiil so when the lag gets bad in one piece i can simply move to another.
