PvP sorc armor viability

Is there any other viable combination for armor other than the 5 light 1 med 1 heavy meta for sorcs in PvP?

I could swap out for some extra med pcs to make stamina management a little better or even more heavy after DB buff to heavy but seems suboptimal for a magica sorc.

I've dualed and run across sorcs in open world that seem to take no damage at all when you attack them... Surely they are not wearing impen armor on a mag sorc but it seems their damage mitigation is too phenomenal to be 5L1M1H.

What makes you believe they don't? Hardened Ward is the best sorc armour anyway, I believe

Nothing stops you from going 5-2, for example. Or try and go for a 5h build, just need to adapt your playstyle and play to your classes strength. Right now, this strength revolves around a lot of magicka + sustain, hence the 5-1-1.

5/1/1 is only choice when you have undaunted passives. If you don't then there is no real reason to stick to that.

As for your sorc opponent. Were you directly hitting his health bar? Though even if you were you should be dealing more damage -no matter the impen the sorc runs (cuz shield means no crit, all impen prevents 60% of crit and only crit, therefore even all impen would mean you on average dealing 20% more damage to health long run)

Heavy armor alone adds only 10%ish more mitigation.

My guess is either healing ward, or blessing of restoration (only sorc heals without pet that can actually heal 25% health if crits) kept him alive.

No sorc without a ward has the mitigation of any other build.

Full impen on a sorc is definitely doable but not optimal. You lose too much recovery/damage by either lowering you magica pool (as magica makes your wards stronger obviously) or your damage, crit, pen (depending on mundus). Sure there are other ways to make up for that (enchants, lich etc...) just seems like the magica you lose would not be beneficial by taking 60% less crit damage

In reality, for impen, it should be (time without shield/total time)(15% - for full impen) = real total long run mitigation.

As shields prevent crits, during the time shields are up, make impen completely negated. You should calculate the time shields are up (especially once DB is released and everyone will have a strong ward)

The only real survivability sorcs have (the only defensive buff we have is 7% mitigation) is to spam a ward and a heal.

There is no way a Fotm Sorc should be effected by impen (to the same extent as other builds... NB), nor should they be running much impen (if at all imo)

Pretty much the same as I feel about that.

Would be interested to see if others are having success throwing on additional medium or heavy pcs but I just don't feel there's an edge to doing that unless it's for a very specific build or playstyle. Can't say I felt much of a diff running 2H1M4L or 2M1H4L

I have been running 5L 2H for a long time on my sorc. It seemed to help a lot back when there was many wrecking blow spammers. With 5L and 2H along with lightning form and nirn weapon that is around 22k spell resist and 18k physical. That is not even taking into consideration points stacked into elemental defender or hardy.

When I get bloodspawn shoulders or helm I want to try running 1x blood spawn, 1x Molag kena. I did this on the pts and the stam regen saved me a lot.
