Channelling the Pukeosaurus

We have been told that some of our heroes will now stop channelling Yol, and start channelling something altogether different . It seems that some ESO godling has decreed that stamina DK’s will henceforth spew poison, and so the population of Tamriel will just have to get on with it. At least, this decision has all the arrogance of a god toying with his own creations.

Please don’t assume I’m writing some kind of jeremiad here. This post is intended as praise, not scorn. I think this change is a good example of exactly how a world with divine intervention would work, given the nature of its gods. In Tamriel it is not beyond the bounds of possibility that, one morning, everyone might wake up to find they’ve got cheese slippers, and then have to decide whether to wear them, venerate them, or feed them to the neighbour’s dog for a laugh.

To me this change in DK stamina morphs looks more like the work of Peryite than the Mad God. In Skyrim we saw how he turned his flock into poison-spewing abominations. We also know he is the daedric prince of order, so it would be no surprise if he intervened to rationalise the jumbled disorder that has come into being as a result of the magicka/stamina dichotomy.

As regards my own game play I think of myself as a solo quester. I like my characters to have a character – a character that is a good fit for both the quest lines and the milieu. It helps me feel part of the story and this provides me with the motivation I need to propel myself across many weeks and months of game play towards the elegant conclusion that I seek.

A stamDK is to be my eighth character in the game. I already have seven well-developed characters covering all the other class/attribute combinations.

Soon it will be time for me to start playing this new hero, but I’m struggling with the character. How do I reconcile the look and feel of a poison-spewing abomination with all the unilinear, good-guy-only quests that make up almost the whole of the base game.

I considered playing an Imperial with a name something like Pukeosaurus Rexus , but the joke was never going to last. The best I've been able to come up with so far is to roll an Argonian. Reptiles naturally use poison and bacteria in their bites and barbs, so it does not feel intrinsically evil for a reptilian to use those weapons. This might work for me, but it only has a neutralish sort of feel to it. Not really all that heroic.

What I’m trying my best here to find is a coherent and intuitively satisfying characterisation for a poison-puking StamDK who would himself be satisfied with a role as a warrior in many noble causes, a person who will take on seemingly-suicidal tasks solely out of the kindness of his own heart, some native of Tamriel who would be more than proud to become a hero of his alliance, a Champion of Meridia and the "Savior" of Nirn.

I’m sure it would be much easier for me to come up with a truly heroic character for my Stam DK if there was some narrative element within the game itself regarding his use of poison that I could use as a hook. A storyline. A quest. A book. An expository cut-scene experienced by DK’s on logging in after the DB patch. Perhaps just one of those conversations you overhear on the street…

Wiseacre 1: “I hear some of the Knights of the Flame have been blessed by Peryite.”

Wiseacre 2: ”It’ll lead to another schism, mark my words.”

Anything, really.

So, come on, Zeni. Throw us a bone. Role players need love too. For some of us this is going to be a significant change to the look and feel of our games. It’s not just a change in behind-the-scenes mechanics. The people of Tamriel will notice. Please help us work this change, and other changes like it, into our own stories.

At a resent Poll I reached the conclusion that people would become filthy beings if only for more power. Just like in real life. I also noticed of how much the other classes were afraid of stamina DKs.
I am no role player. I like PvP and dragonknight should remain a dragonknight. I will not turn a mage and I will not puke just because of better PASSIVE STATS/NUMBERS.

Since you want to go ahead and make such a mistake with one of your classes ZOS, I will use the improvements you made to Fighters Guild, my Dualswords and my Heavy Armor to deal with all those power loving vomit spitting freaks.

You know, if you don't care about min/maxing your character you could just, I don't know...use the magicka morphs? They look the same as always and give you the benefit of fire with none of the MOAR POWAH.

On the other hand, some of us actually like having our character work well with our CP passives.
