Survey vanished

So i completed my woodwork writ and got a survey but when i was going to the location the map just vanished from my invent. This has never happened before so i dont know why it happened ZOS? I know all about the glitch that was there with these Maps but do you think this is connected???

They vanish now when you get near or to location. The nodes will be there still but Mao is removed instead of being removed once last node is harvested. I wish it didn't disappear so fast cause I wasn't near my location before it disappeared so I had to circled the general area til I saw the nodes. Luckily I have points in the passive that highlights nodes when I get near them.

I noticed that too. At first I thought it was a bug, as I was with Haven's MapPins disabled I went the site from memory, and I was quite far from the right place yet and the thing had already vanished.

If you leave the surveys inside the reward box do they still disappear?

Oh no way thats so stupid now. I was not very close when it vanished and RL stuff meant i had to log off without having a proper look. So i take it because of cheaters this is how it now works?

Yes, it's very annoying - you don't even have to be able to see the nodes and the map point and survey have already vanished because you're in the general area. Some people cheated and now everyone is punished by potentially losing their surveys altogether if they approach an area and don't harvest the survey nodes (which they might not even be able to see yet) at that time. Let's hope this is only temporary, though I suspect the permanent fix will probably be just as bad if not worse.

Yep as usual the good guys end up getting punished as well as i have already now lost that Survey. Patience is wearing very thin with this company and game.

All my characters are carrying survey maps in their inventory for months now (just working off a few every now and then). I guess I'll better wait until the "fix" is fixed before I move out of the banks again.
Really, this shouldn't be like this..

This has happened to me too! I think it is b/c of whatever exploit they fixed. I was really confused the first time, got distracted by a mob, fought it, got lost and the survey disapeared and I could not find the spot. I am super-directionally challeneged. I hone in on the spot like a lazer beam now.

It's just a temporary hotfix while the mass exploit is dealt with. It will be resolved finally with the DB update.

Happened to me multiple times too.
It did not delete surveys inside their "coffers" when I had multiple but I am not sure "coffered" surveys proc the nodes to sppear.

Now I am extremely careful to NOT just run around with open writs bc I worry about accidentally tripping them when questing or chest in and not picking them up.

To be clear, even when it took over 15m to find the nodes after the deletion, I always found them and they did not expire uncollected. However, I was careful to not log off or way shrine until I found the deleted survey's nodes.

I would suggest a compromise from zenimax.

When a survey is deleted, it should trigger a map marker to the specific node spot including elevation like any other quest feature. This will save a lot of worry and frustration.

Yeah unfortunately i had to log off so i presume the nodes have well gone.

They say it is temporary. I personally dislike it as I tend to wander alot with surveys on me - but it is the price we have to pay until they decide the permanent fix when DB drops.

I thought this happened to me, but thought no surely couldn't have, I thought I was going mad. I carry a lot of surveys on one character and harvest them. When I have about 20 ish. It's the same with cyrodill maps - I don't do it untill I have a few I hope they don't disappear. This is really annoying as I have opened my containers/coffers so far too.But thanks for posting as I won't be now and know I am not imagining it. Still sucks though.

I agree, the band aid they placed on this exploit is inconvenient. First time i tracked down the maps no addon. To farm the maps over and over and over, yes i use addon now but when i am close, marker disappears and i am back to searching.

They are partially to blame.

Zo$ carries the other part. Releasing and CHARGING for content that isn't even tested, shows they rather get some quick money. How long was this exploit going on?, weeks. Shows how out of touch they really are.

Lol.. that's a pretty big step you took there, from "oh dang, I lost my survey because I got distracted" to "all because of those cheaters".

If you didn't collect the nodes, then after relogging the survey should direct you to where to go again.

It operates under the assumption that you were close enough to get them, and that you did. It's not like they wrote it into the code so as to troll the hell out of you for no reason. No disrespect intended, but blaming RL for your survey disappearing gave me a good chuckle.

Surveys were like this before too but were changed so they didn't vanish upon arrival due to people crashing and losing out. Exploiters made Zenimax change it back to this so don't blame Zenimax blame them because if they didn't do it in the first place this would not have happened.

I had a craglorn survey, marked it on my map, tried to find it, but survey disappeared. Never found it, but think I remember where it is, will the nodes still be there if I log on tomorrow?

I have the solution, but some of you may not like it.
Surveys are character bound and cannot be banked. Exploit fixed. Survey no longer disappears when you get close to the area.

But agreed, that's a simple fix, wouldn't bother me.

If you are passing an area with Survey Reports in your inventory, they will disappear when you get within an estimated 30 meters of the area. Three of mine disappeared from inventory after the 04/29/2016 hot fix while I was randomly exploring, but I was fortunate I knew which ones I had in my inventory. I was able to look up (online) where they were supposed to be and harvest before I completely forgot I had those Survey Reports.

This is bad, very bad. Wandering around exploring, all these Survey maps will disappear from your inventory before you even know to go look for them. They should disappear after you harvest the first one?

Happened to me also on the first survey I did yesterday - had to google it's location as I had wandered right past the nodes without noticing them and it was the first time I ever had that survey.

I am against not being allowed to bank them as not all of my alts doing writs are 'fit for combat' in Wrothgar or Craglorn and would be killed if they came across any foe while harvesting. My main collects all of my survey maps once I have a stockpile and harvests the nodes.

As a console player I do not have access to add ons. The suggestion that a marker gets placed there once the survey map disappears and remains until you harvest the nodes may work.

This is very annoying and I'm glad to hear they will be changing it, even if we have to wait for a bit. I was heading to my survey today, but I always get distracted by materials to farm along the route so I was pretty confused when the red X (from an addon) vanished from my map. Luckily I have done that particular survey enough times that I was able to find the area.... but I had been quite far away when it vanished so this will mess up a lot of people.

As someone else suggested, a map marker would help a lot. I don't mind if they make them character bound either if that's what it takes to fix it. I figure that's how it was meant to be so I only do the writs on characters that can do the surveys themselves.

Yeah i know, it didnt disappear because of RL. It disappeared because of dam cheaters in the game made ZOS change the code. And all they got was a 72 hour ban. Go chuckle at that. I have played games that if cheaters were found,no matter how small it was a PERM ban. Boom account gone, everything. ZOS has really messed this situation up imo

This is so incredibly stupid. I went to collect my blacksmithing survey writ in Wrothgar, used a wayshrine to get there and then BOOM! Gone.

So I walked away and left the writ unfinished. Why was there no announcement about this?

ZOS this is one of the stupidest things that I have ever seen done in a game. Please return it to the way that it was.

Luckely I did enough crafting writs to know where they are if I get closer. but for the newer people trying out the crafting writs they have a f hard time to find those things, maybe they walked a bit wrong or forgot where it was... well good job now you don't know and probably will either quit or spend a ton of time searching for it.
