Where do you learn your Elder Scrolls Lore?

As a roleplayer, I've always been facinated by the lore of the games I've played. I was a huge fan of D&D and Neverwinter/Fallen Realms and now I've gotten into the Elder Scrolls universe.

I'm wanting to learn more about the actual Lore involved with Elder Scrolls through it's various eras, Gods, and history. Where do have you picked up your knowledge?

(Within the game and it's tomes is also an answer; feel free to join the discussion)

My favorite source right now is the Youtube Channel Shoddycast. They have two full seasons on Elder Scrolls Lore including a video about how Elder Scrolls Online falls in line with the rest of the games.

Mostly in-game, but also from online sources as long as it's supported by something in-game. The Unofficial Elder Scrolls Pages is a pretty good site to look through for information (en.uesp.net/wiki/Main_Page).

I'm the kind of person to collect and read through all the lorebooks I find along the way in Elder Scrolls games, they're really interesting to me. I'm glad that in ESO they're all stored in my journal, in Skyrim in particular I ran out of shelf space so started stacking them on top of my steward's bed because I didn't want to leave any behind. Sorry, Marcurio! :D.

Mostly in the games, reading everything I can put my grubby hands on and listening to every npc I can find. Because a lot of what we think we know is based on old tales and on character's opinions, with all their biases, I take everything I read and listen with a grain of salt, too. Also, I have a few friends I often discuss lore with, and we help each other when one of us is remembering something wrong.
Just so that everyone knows, my Altmer still can't have black hair. About a dozen of Altmer NPCs in the game have black hair. Just saying.

    Meet my characters:
    Command: Do the thing.

Zadarri, Khajiit Fist of Thalmor: The thing was done, as commanded.
Durza gra-Maghul, Orc blacksmith: The thing was done perfectly, in the most efficient way.
Tegwen, Bosmer troublemaker: You can't prove I didn't do the thing.
Sings-Many-Songs, Argonian fisher: Sure, I'll do the thing... Eventually. Maybe.
Aerindel, Altmer stormcaller: After extensive research, I've come to the conclusion that doing the thing would be a waste of resources.
Liliel, Dunmer pyromancer: Aerindel said I shouldn't do the thing. Something about "resources".
Gyda Snowcaller, Nord cryomancer: I will find a way to do it that won't waste resources and make Aerindel proud of me.
Beatrice Leoriane, Breton vampire: I persuaded someone else into doing the thing. You are welcome, dear.
Sahima, Redguard performer: Doing the thing sounds awfully unpleasant and really not my problem.
Ellaria Valerius, Imperial priestess: I'll pray to the Eight for the thing to be done, if it is Their will.

In game books is where I learned all the lore. Pretty sure each game of the series has all the books. Eso has 2800 fluff lore entries. If it were to be put into a single book it would be about 900 pages.

Here. UESP is fine too, it's really just a matter of preference.

Shoddycast is fun to watch, but you really shouldn't base yourself on it, it's much too superficial. I imagine it's probably cringe worthy to real loremasters.

@SantieClaws, how do Khajiit feel about catnip? Or belly rubs? You are my favorite on the forum! My favorite Khajiit! ^.^

This one has said before that she cannot speak for all khajiit. All khajiit are not like this one. There are many khajiit that are noble warriors and sages. Many holy ones who understand the moons and stars. Santie is no warrior nor is she a sage and usually only sees the stars after a heavy night out at the Rosy Lion.

The life of this one was spent of the road with many travellers and a little toothy adopted orc sister. So maybe Santie has learnt the language and habits of those she has associated with along the way.

Santie is just Santie. Nothing more and nothing less. She likes to drink and dance and go fishing - usually the first two of these put off the fishies though yes.

This one does not know what is this 'catneep'. As for the belly rubs. Only if I know you really really well and we are both very drunk otherwise no one touches the belly unless they also wish for the touch of the claws!

Khajiitt admits she would not turn down the taste of the sweet sugar of the moons if it was offered to her. The one true weakness that all of my kind they share!
