Play what you want

So most arguments have that one guy who claims do play "insert some goofy race/class combo" and loves it... the point is to be effective in end game i.e. Vma / vet raids, after spending a lot of time on that argonian vamp stam sorc, you realize dang I am below avg. at everything etc....

If you just want to wander around fishing and role playing and annoying pug groups, by all means play whatever you like... but please stop saying they are fine at everything in the game blah blah blah.

Like saying, sure a 400lb man in a prom dress can ride a horse in a horse race, sure but a small jockey in appropriate attire is probably gonna win. Unless of course the 400lb guy is the only one in the race.

How about a certain Khajiit who rides a Guar naked through an Argonian temple?

I think the topic is about someone not being able to ride a horse in the upcoming Kentucky Derby due to a weight issue.

    I could be wrong, though

That analogy just proves you have enough imagination for roleplaying. You should consider it ;)

Okay so with your analogy the horse symbolises the player's skills and the men symbolise player's character's builds (race, gear, active abilities)

Assuming the horses(skills) are the same, obviously someone with an optimum physique(build) will win(perform better). The issue with your analogy though, is that in-game everyone does not have the same horse(skill).

An example of this is Sypher wrecking people (as he's more skilled/has a better horse) on his suboptimal Imperial MagNB against their optimal Sorcs/NBs/DKs/Templars.

99% of people who are effective in end-game content and/or competitive in PvP, don't operate at 100% effectiveness. It's skill or build that is the overriding factor that makes them effective and/or competitive.

They didn't care about my weight, but, said the dress was "inappropriate" gawd people are so close minded....

But seriously, has anyone finished VMA with an argonian stam sorc vamp? Using a bow/bow spec and chugging mag pots? Cause that is how I like to play.

VMsa should be doable by my naked Argonian Templar with no points put in skills, otherwise it isn't "play as I want".

Wow, so I guess most of the people in this forum are either extremely young or plain and short, a little dim.

Sure the analogy was worded less than perfect, but the point is clear. This game is not as diverse as it claims to be in terms of customization. And the skill trees and combinations are uninspired and generic.

I have hope that new, innovative skill lines will be introduced eventually and improve customization options.

You clearly know more about my characters than i do. I've only been playing them for what, 2 years now. And you have never seen any of them.

But hey, way to project your perceived superiority onto my builds.

None of my builds follow the typical "cookie cutter" flavor of the month (or better, flavor of the latest patch).
And yet, they are all competitive and fun to play, both in PvE and PvP.

I know, i know, according to the likes of you, that is impossible.
But then again, why should i listen to you when i can have plenty of fun without your narrow minded view of this game?

Overall though, the statement is correct. With the exception of a few edge cases and role specific functions, every build can be viable (in PvP at least). I've seen a vast amount of PvP videos and streams of people playing just about every kind of class and skill combination you can imagine and also being very effective at it. Are there flavor of the month builds that everyone lacking imagination jumps to? Sure, but that doesn't mean ***.

He still didn't tell me that story. I'm gonna throw a fit next time we talk and demand it from him.
Just so that everyone knows, my Altmer still can't have black hair. About a dozen of Altmer NPCs in the game have black hair. Just saying.

    Meet my characters:
    Command: Do the thing.

Zadarri, Khajiit Fist of Thalmor: The thing was done, as commanded.
Durza gra-Maghul, Orc blacksmith: The thing was done perfectly, in the most efficient way.
Tegwen, Bosmer troublemaker: You can't prove I didn't do the thing.
Sings-Many-Songs, Argonian fisher: Sure, I'll do the thing... Eventually. Maybe.
Aerindel, Altmer stormcaller: After extensive research, I've come to the conclusion that doing the thing would be a waste of resources.
Liliel, Dunmer pyromancer: Aerindel said I shouldn't do the thing. Something about "resources".
Gyda Snowcaller, Nord cryomancer: I will find a way to do it that won't waste resources and make Aerindel proud of me.
Beatrice Leoriane, Breton vampire: I persuaded someone else into doing the thing. You are welcome, dear.
Sahima, Redguard performer: Doing the thing sounds awfully unpleasant and really not my problem.
Ellaria Valerius, Imperial priestess: I'll pray to the Eight for the thing to be done, if it is Their will.

that was the point? it really was worded in the most aweful way i've ever seen xD

Anyway to the "translated" point i can agree ^^ to me the solution would be simple: CANCEL all classes and add all skill lines into a proper Elder Scroll system giving max customization to all players :P

Well it should be doable, but not the best option... they can't nerf everything so that argonian stam sorcerer can be good, that's no fun for the other people, but I don't see why argonian stam sorcerer should actually be that much worse in the first place.

I don't (or rarely do) play competitive or otherwise group-oriented, so my builds are ok-ish as they are. Compared to "optimal builds", I suck, though^^

But even IF I had THE optimal build and THE best gear and used THE best skills in the game, I still wouldn't be the best player, since I notice that I only get slower over the years, not quicker. My reaction is fast, but not as fast as from someone half my age.
So whatever someone does, it will always be different than someone else does, and there will always be better players (in terms of true skill) than I am or someone else is.
It's still just a game, take it easy :)

    What are you smoking?

you're missing the point mate those of us who don't care a rats rear end about micro management of DPS meters in end game content are loving the game, its called having fun.

And yes 'play as you want' is why im here, lost count of the toons I have spent hundreds of hours levelling up in other games only to get bored or become unviable for raiding because of some muppet wielding a nerf bat, get bored here? respec, change your clothes and weapons = new start or a change without losing that time and effort.
