What if... Weapon & Armor Sets were upgradable?

The way the game is now old sets become useless quite fast when players lvl up so i'e been thinking.. what if those low lvl sets were actually upgradable?

What i mean is that a crafter could be able to upgrade both:

- armor/weapon base
- amor/weapon quality

So.. the quality part stays as it is now going from white to yellow... but as far as the "base" is concerned it could work like this.

Let's say that we have a set that require vet 14 to be equipped.

A crafter could use let's say 300 voidstone ingots to upgrade it to a vet 15 piece of equip and, after that, 600 rubedite ingots to upgrade it to vet 16... or CP160 since we're getting a removal on vet ranks.

I think that by doing something like this old sets might come into play to encourage character different customizations at high lvls and, at the same time, would not "hinder" too much the progression and switching on sets since the requirement for old sets upgrade would be quite massive and require time and/or money.

Of course to upgrade the quality of said item the process would be the same as it is now.

I'd like to hear opinions ^^

It has been mentioned before a mere dozend times... and yeah, it would be nifty if we could just keep out favorite sets and grab enormous amounts of resources to upgrade them instead of having to find a new set that we like as much...

It could be a new perk that becomes available to spend skill point on at crafting level 50... maybe even at three levels (first level - change gear appereance, second level - change trait, third level - upgrade gear base).

And like temper improvements, it could come with a destruction chance that can be migrated by using more resources...

Personally I'd love to see these things!

I really really like this idea. As a crafter one of the problems is time, and the style stones. Mimic stones have been a big help, but cost actual money in crown store. Upgrading the base is a wonderful idea that I think would really benefit the game. Like making adjustments to a nice suit rather than making a whole new suit.

It would also help time wise. Having to craft a whole new set as oppossed to upgrading one that you particularly like and already have dyed. Great idea!!! Would so love to see this implemented. Doesn't seem like it would be hard to make a reality!

This is what @zos failed to do when they got rid of vet lvls. Instead they made a *** and complex CP system

It would be nice to see a DECENT (so not UNDERPOWERED or OVERPOWERED, but DECENT) weapon was levelable with the characters?
Earthdawn Game Master Role Play Quotes by me:
"If it looks like a bear, if it feels like a bear, smells and tastes like a bear, then be VERY aware, it could be something ENTIRELY different..."
"Be careful what you wish for, you might get plenty of it..."

Well, as Hephaistos said about a weapon such as this... "Its bad for business"

The point is, a way to "levelup" gear needs to be at -least- as much trouble as earning a new piece/set of gear would be. Otherwise there is less motivation to actually play the game, and such games survive by motivating their players to play them...

This would be awesome. In my opinion, gear treadmills in general bring nothing of value to a game - they're just a timesink that gets invalidated in the next Expac/DLC. There are games that do fine without them and give you plenty other carrots on sticks for you to chase.

But ESO has sets, with interesting effects, it's not just a flat stat increase, so it could sustain a hybrid system. Casual players would just improve their current sets with less time investment, while hardcore players would probably get the new gear and in addition have the option to improve their old one. This will also greatly help altoholics. Not to mention that it would probably improve build variety a bit.

The only downfall I see is if the new sets are considerably weaker than the old ones.

Yeah i agree.. that's why i wrote "600 ingots" instead of the ones needed to create one for example.. and it would be 600 for every single piece.
Of course i wrote it as an example and it should be subject to change after a little research but you get the idea ^^

Agreed. After I spend months grinding for the perfect VR16 set I don't want to have to re-grind for months to get the set again when they raise to VR18 (or whatever the CP equivalent will be). We should be able to take our gear to a crafting station and 'apply' more mats to it to raise its level. After all, we can upgrade the quality anytime we want, why not the level?

It's at the top of my list. Hell, I'd give anything to be able to upgrade/modify some of my gear

That would be great, but ZOS won't do it.

Yes, I do, and a hefty price as your post suggested would be quite all right.
Mister "weapon was levelable with the characters" on the other hand... ;)
That was the point I was trying to make.

And yes, it has been suggested every now and then for as long as I have paid attention to the forums... and never did we get any word from ZOS, so I'd rate it as one of the "not very likely" ideas. But still, who knows? Maybe they someday will go for it...

After all, here on the forums is just the place to brainstorm about how the game would go from "good" to "great", right?
