Is it still possible to reach Direnni Tower somehow? I saw a video on youtube showing that it was possible to jump out of the water continuously to avoid Slaughterfish damage, but apparently that got patched. Is there another way?

Why would you want to? They just copy/pasted the White Gold Tower model for background decoration. Fingers crossed we get Isle of Balfiera DLC one day and they design it properly.

Even though they screwed up architecture and environment design at launch by trying to create assets for all ten provinces at launch, they've proven they can design unique architecture and environments really well with their post-launch focused DLC.

Actually, lore wise, the White-Gold Tower is a copy of the Direnni Tower.

The Direnni Tower is the oldest structure on Tamriel.

No, i don't think it's reachable. I tried, but swimming there takes so long that all heal buffs vanish, and slaughterfish eventually win.

The way I recall it, there used to be a bug that allowed people to reach it and wander around the empty isle. Which has since been patched.

Who knows though... it -would- make a pretty nifty DLC, exploring that tower, fighting through numerous small levels to the stairs to the next one... would bring back memories of some classic dungeon crawl games from the early days of computer games... ;)

The slaughterfish-jumping method is/was a result of partial server disconnect, caused by the client and server not communicating the fact that the player is in the slaughterfish. You can/could also use it to reach Bravil in Cyrodiil.

If you're interested, datamining has shown that an earlier version of the Main Quest was to have a chapter set in Adamantine Tower. Also, Balfiera has at times been considered for implementation as a PvP objective, presumably in battleground style.

So... the answer is no, apparently. Sad.

As to why, isn't it self explanatory? It's the Direnni Tower, I'm a Breton of High Rock... why would I NOT want to visit it?

Also, Darkstorne, JD2013 is right, the Direnni Tower does indeed preceed the White Gold Tower, according to established TES lore. Wether or not they look the same isn't known.

Any idea how to emulate this server disconnect?

No, not really (at least, I don't have any ideas; someone else may do). They may have even found a way to patch it out. You try it at a time with high latency (they're not that hard to come by ...), or you could try intentionally fudging up your internet connection, but they probably won't work. There's not really anything to find there anyway; as with those people who have managed to escape the zone boundaries, it's just filled with incomplete assets.

Hopefully there will be a time in the future where we can visit the tower as part of the game, rather than by exploiting an unstable connection to reach somewhere that exists only as a "vista" piece.

By ESO lore perhaps. There's no concrete TES lore on that. No doubt a perfect explanation for why they copy/pasted an existing asset though, instead of creating unique architecture for the oldest structure in Tamriel designed and developed by gods instead of mortals.
