2-way traders

Currently guild traders sell items for the members, but they could be more useful if they would also BUY items for the members. I would like to be able to put in a buy order, set the maximum price I would pay and the quantity I want. Then if anyone lists a matching item it would automatically be purchased and mailed to me. And at guild traders, non-members could see a list requested goods and sell their stuff to fill those orders.
  • I think it would be good to limit the number of orders each member could have. Maybe 3 or 5, at most 10.
  • If two orders match, the earliest order gets filled first. First come, first served.
  • I think we would need to put down the money up front so there was no shortage of funds later. Any money left over would be refunded.
  • I assume there would be a guild tax on such transactions, just as there is on sales.
  • I'm not sure if the system should reveal the asking price to the sellers or not. I could argue it both ways. It's simpler if it does.
  • The system should be smart enough to partially fill orders, and to fill orders that only take part of the stack being sold.

That's actually a pretty good idea. Gives some incentive for trading as well. Could also be applied with guild housing and job noticeboards but keeping it within the guild trader already utilises game assets.

Don't they have something like that in Wildstar?

Not sure if I like that idea. Sure, it could be fun if trading in tamriel worked similar to a real world stock exchange, but I fear that only those who can invest time and money in their trading will benefit from it while others will never have the chance to buy anything cheap.

First come, first served. Everyone puts in their bids the same way so I don't see the disparity. Of course, someone who invests more time will notice when his/her bids are filled and can put in another bid, but that's not unequal treatment.

I also don't see how money changes it. If you put in a bid for 10 of something and then someone else puts in a bid for 200 of the same thing, your bid gets filled before theirs is looked at because of first come, first served. You only get 10, but that's all you asked for.

Seems like a pretty fair system to me.

Not sure about wildstar, they had a separate commodities broker from the main auction of items that worked a little differently. You didn't buy out a set stack size of something, you bough as many individually as you wanted. When looking at the price it would show the cheapest price for 1, 10, and 50? or something like that and you'd automatically get the cheapest ones first, and price going up as you bought those out.

I really liked their commodities broker. I wish more games would separate mats from items in auctions.

GW2 did have buy orders for anything in the game, gear or mats.

That's actually a great idea! One thing when listing items to sell is thinking "Hmm, will anyone actually want this?", with this method, you can see the demand beforehand, so can list your items confident that they will definitely sell, AND at the correct price, since the buyer also lists that :)
