What procs on DoT's? (try and say that quickly five times!)

I'm starting a new thread because I can't find a list anywhere else, and I was hoping the community will add anything they know (or even are reasonably confident about) to help with a PvE build - I really want to respec into a DoT build, but with the DoT's randomly triggering extra effects.

What skills, gear and passives can be triggered by damage over time ticks?

I know that the briarthorns (briarheart set) can be triggered and will heal on DoT ticks that crit.
I believe the Evil hunter skill has a chance to proc on DoT ticks.
Everyone knows that Valkyn Scoria turns DoT's into meteors!
Most the maelstrom weopons buff DoT's.

I am guessing the Syvarra's scales armour set also procs on DoT's, but that is just a guess. It also adds another DoT.

I would welcome any thoughts on this, as about 30 seconds of over-excited theory-crafting tells me I can set up 3 AoE dot's and 4 single target DoT's, and if I had Syvarra's scales, Evil hunter and scoria there would be a 16% chance ON EACH ONE of those DoT ticks that something will proc... every second, on at least seven DoT ticks...

Winterborn set procs on any ice damage done so works on dots. Though looking at the list you currently have I assume your looking for stamina based set ups.

Didn't think of the winterborn set, but I've seen it used in videos and it looks really useful.

In terms of magicka or stamina I'm really open, and it can be any class. When Veteran ranks are removed I'm hoping to turn one of my lower level vet characters into a dot build just for funzies, I will base it on what has the most synergies with DoT's. Thanks!

I've been using syvarras scales with skoria, tried it on a few chars and it it procs insanely! Even to the extent that skoria can proc syvarra and vice versa.

even my stam sorc now feels useful lol, use either or the lightening form morphs, throw down some caltrops and away you go.

That setup also works well with both WW and vamp (the ulti and the stun/heal or poison mist all proc dots)

I'm toying with trying the sets in heavy for survivability, I know syvarra comes in medium and light, pretty sure it comes in heavy too.

I've used the sets with dual wield (flurry and the bleed heal) two-handed (brawler) bow (loads of dot options there) destro staffs, refreshing path (or other morph works too) lightening form on sorcs, and ofc dragon knight has a million dots that can work.

Haven't decided what the ideal set-up is yet for these two sets, but I think there's a HUGE amount of viability here, am deffo gonna be trying more abilities etc to see what turns out best :)

@MuddledMuppet thanks so much for sharing this!!!

I have the gear (2 x scoria, 5 syvara's inc 2 weopons, 5 briarheart), but weirdly I still can't choose a race or class. With the changes to crit surge (will now proc off dots), a stam sorc would get some reliable healing, and it would be a good use of the new huricane skill.

I feel like I'm forgetting another ability that affects how dot's perform, but even going through the (outdated) skills list I can't seem to find what I'm thinking of.

Maelstrom Axes are kinda a must for a DoT build.

Expert Hunter and its morphs will no longer proc magic damage when the DB patch goes live.

Syvara's Scales, Winterborn, Affliction, Skoria, Scathing Mage, Burning Spellweave, Night Mother's Gaze all proc off of DOT effects.

Sheer Venom, Toxic Defiance, Armor of Truth, Elf Bane, Morag Tong, Spawn of Mephala, Maelstrom weapons, and Bahara's Curse can all add on to or improve DOT damage.

If you are doing stamina Sorcerer with DOTs you can use:

Dual wield - Flurry + twin slashes + deadly cloak + twin blunt and blade Axe bleed

    Two Handed - Brawler

Bow - Lethal arrow (automatic poison effect) + Poison injection + Rain of arrows

Fighter guild - Dawnbreaker + rearming trap

    Soul magic - Soul Assault

    Class skills - Hurricane

It would probably be best to use a poison glyph and a disease glyph if you are going flat damage or a weapon power glyph + an absorb stamina glyph if you are going weapon damage/crit.

@exiledtyrant I wish I could do more than say your post was insightful! That is the list I have been looking for. Thank you so much!

No problem. It's the only type of build I play consistently now over the past few months so I've gotten to use a lot of the stuff I mentioned already. I have been trying to figure out a way to make a hybrid again with DOTs using sorcerer but I keep coming up blank for single target.

Syvara's Scales, Winterborn, Affliction, Skoria, Scathing Mage, Burning Spellweave, Night Mother's Gaze all proc off of DOT effects.

The tooltip says 'all damage' for syvarras, is that not accurate?

Yes all damage can proc syvarra's. At a 6% chance it would be more effective to use DOTs as all DOTs are damage over time, and stack for multiple instances of damage per second.

@Jim_Pipp how you getting on with this, and are you EU ps4 by any chance? Would be neat to try two people stacking this in a dungeon, perhaps one person wearing 5 night mother gaze, 5 syvera and skoria, other person with 5 syveras, skoria and 5 affliction for a bit of tankiness.

Haha just thought, imagine a 4 man team

A further thought, the tank could use malubeth, would proc syvarras too

TLDR Enemies melt! But build needs work

you were right, the procs that come from both syvarra's and Skoria are amazingly consistent, and proc eachother, and this build is far more viable for group play than I expected.

I've used my khajiit sorc, which was actually the first character I ever made, but could never get to perform well enough. The increased crit chance is pretty perfect for this.

I played for two days, with dual syvarra's axes on both bars, one bar focused on single target, the other on Aoe, and it is probably the most epic build I've played. There is definitely a rotation that works best (its not just spamming an ability) but wow! It feels supernaturally powerful, you stand in a hurricane as all these effects are landing, all mobs health bars are dropping from multiple DoT, and the bodies decompose on fire, melted by poison or pulverised by the sorcs implosion passive (that passive procs off DoT's!). The more enemies you fight the more epic it gets, so I played public dungeons mostly.

Even single target there was almost always something that proc'd. As gimmicky as meteors and poisonous spit are, they contribute significant damage. With briarheart, crit surge, bloodthirst and bloodcraze you are over healing damage taken.

But... I don't have caltrops on this character, and this DoT build won't work in cyrodil, so I have respec'd my sorc to go and level up the assault line. In a couple of weeks the build will be back.

I want to put a bow on the back bar, and open fights by applying dots. I would rather not loose the syvarra 5 piece bonus, so I think I'll need to look for briarheart weapons (I heard they were added), so I only loose the briarheart 5 piece during weapon swap. If I get the willpower to grind vet maelstrom for axes/bow then I would ditch briarheart entirely. Night mother's is also sounding more attractive.

@MuddledMuppet thanks for giving me an opportunity to rant about this. When I played this build I was thinking of making a short demonstration video, and now I've written about it I wish I had recorded it, just for myself. Unfortunately I play on pc EU servers, which is a shame because it would have been good to practice veteran dungeons before I inflict this build on a pug group.

Your idea's of DoT group would make an awesome video. One nice thing about the new health bars above enemies heads is that you can see DoT's eroding the health of a whole mob! I'd love to see what a group could do.

@Jim_Pipp glad it's working out! I'm in the same position, enemies melt, but build needs work.

Kahjit sounds a good choice for this, I'm using redguard, less crit but more DMG/stamina. Also, waiting for update for implosion and blood craze etc.

Am not convinced about briarhearts but will give it another go.

I don't think we actually NEED a bow/AOE bar, with razor caltrops and procs there's enough going on IMO, getting some bleeds going on different targets also helps, am thinking sword 'n' board on back bar with invasion for some cc for pesky healers etc. That will also allow full use of both sets. Yes, we need caltrops lol so good call getting that sorted!

Shame we're on different platforms, would have been awesome to try it out!
