Summon Shade, permanent pet morph?

I keep thinking there should be one other class that has pets, that are also permanent other than the Sorcerer. Out of the other 3 current classes, Nightblade can summon a Shade to fight by their side, but it doesn't last very long. Would you give up one of the current morphs to make the Summon Shade a permanent pet that fights by your side at all times?

It would become a valid attack target like the Sorc's pets while losing some of its damage to become a permanent pet.

Really wish the shades would look like your character too. How am I summoning shadow clones of myself when I'm a khajiit and the shades are clearly men?

Not a bad idea. However the primary drawback to this that I see is that this change would turn the skill into a toggle, making it mandatory to run on both bars. I would not run it were it a toggle either. It's fine the way it is in pvp. In pve it's use is diminished due to the availability of better options.

Don't dare changing shadow image. It's a pure utillity skill and it should stay that way. I don't mind if the other morph becomes a real pet, I'm not going to use it anyway.

This is why I don't like the idea. In reality this is what I and a lot of others dislike about pets for Sorcs as well. Pets should not be a toggle, and they shouldn't last forever. I've been pushing this for a long time. Permanent summons were very unusual in past TES games, why should this one be any different?

I prefer both morphs exactly the way they are.

Let me be explicitly clear, Night Blades magica or stamina do not need a buff.

Any conversation concerning a buff needs a corresponding nerf attached to it .

For the record, in my opinion Night Blades do not need a permanent pet/shadow image.

I would like more characters with pets without having to create a third Sorcerer. I have one that is magicka caster/healer with the imp and twilight, another stamina bow user with the clannfear and twilight. The Nightblade is the only other class with a reasonable chance at having a "pet" in the form of a shadow of oneself.

I've been pushing this for a long time. Permanent summons were very unusual in past TES games, why should this one be any different?

Imho there should be an additional skill slot on our bar (similar to the way ultimates are, in that they are separate from our other skills) that is reserved exclusively for toggle abilities like pets, magelight, flames of oblivion, bound armor, etc. It should be a single skill, not something you can slot differently on both bars, so if you choose to put magelight here, then it's magelight no matter which bar you are on. It eliminates the need for us to waste two of our valuable skill slots for the passive benefit. It also forces us to decide which skill we want to use in this slot.. sorcs would likely still want multiple pets and bound armor, and would still be able to put whichever skill was not in this slot on both bars if they so choose, so if my sorc has magelight in this slot, then I have to put my bound armor, twilight, clanfear, etc. on both bars still. Basically, everyone gets a freebie.

The only drawback to this setup is that it benefits magicka users more than stamina users. However, a really good example of how it would benefit stam users is something like Camo/Evil Hunter, assuming it's used for the passive crit % and not the active portion. Again here I emphasize the cost/benefit implications of having to choose what goes here. For my stam sorc, I could put Camo Hunter in this spot, never cast it, and be just fine. But others rely on the procs and would really need to be able to access the active benefits. Then again, I would rather put bound armaments here and get my crit from potions.

Absolutely not. Understanding that you don't have to use it, the concept of a NB to me is a lone stealth assassin type class, having an imaginary friend around would ruin the whole concept for me.

I think they did a great job designing it the way it is now.

    lol @ imaginary friend

I agree that it's fine as-is. You just seem really salty about the idea of a NB using Illusion magic, when Sorcs can conjure up all sorts of friends to play with.

And just so you know, NBs are so much more than how you depict them here. You've only honed in on a fraction of the NB population.

As it is I've been experimenting with using Shades for a 30 second DoT in PvE...

Not sure I would like it if it was a killable toggle. I don't think it would be a buff.

Just adding my opinion based on my playstyle to a discussion board. Someone else wants a shade pet, that would be great for them, I would personally choose not to use it.

Illusion classes have always been my favorite in games, EQ2 had a coercer class that was beyond fun playing.

They never did when I used them. Don't know if that's been changed, but I seriously doubt it.

Shades have no aggro mechanic. They can't even be targeted. The damage they deal is all but negligible, making this skill (both morphs) only useful for the Minor Maim debuff (in pve).

In pvp the dual shades is pretty pointless, unless running Maim is something you like to incorporate but would not want it to cost stamina (as is the case with Low Slash). However, the ranged shade to which we can teleport is still incredibly useful in pvp for scenarios in which it is necessary to put distance between you and your target, or in a case where you must flee.

I think it is noteworthy to mention that shades cannot proc siphoning attacks, either. The reason I mention this that Low Slash does proc it, and the Deep Slash morh, which hits 3 targets, has 3x the chance of proccing siphoning attacks.
