PS4 Skill Bar Set up

Just curious how you guys place your skills on your bar on PS4 or even Xbox. I've always been using Square, Triangle and circle as my offensive abilites, and L1 and R1 as my defensive abilities. My 2 main attaacks would be square and circle. For example, my DK, a usual set up would be Flame Lash/whip on square, Talons on triangle, and Burning Embers as circle. Then Reflective Scales on L1 and Coag Blood on R1.

I've noticed on a lot of PvP build videos on people on console, they seem to put their main offensive abilities on R1 and L1, which I'm trying now, but seems a bit awkward for animation canceling. Maybe it's just getting used to the controls that way. I've seen pretty much all of them put Flame Lash/whip on R1 which as a DK is our main spamable attack.

So I'm just curious is there a reason for this? is it just personal pref, or is there an advantage to setting up the bar opposite to the way I play.

I have my buff/situational bar which I only flip to quickly. But on my main bar which I have up 99% of the time I have my offensive attacks on L1 + R1 (frags and a destro skill) I then have my finisher on circle (mages fury etc) and then defensive on square and triangle (usually mines or proxy and a ward).

I like having my two main attacks on L1 and R1 as I have multiple toons, it's easier for me to have the same types of skills on the same buttons for each toon. I like having my ward on triangle as its the easiest button to get to on my pad for those "oh shi.." Moments.

I do think L1 and R1 are awkward buttons to keep pushing though, I did try changing the location of my main skills to the buttons but I couldn't get used to it.

    Typically:

    Square: Main/spammable attack
Triangle: Control or gap closer (roots or charges)
    Circle: Executes
L1: Passive buff abilities like magelight, expert hunter, inferno, etc.
R1: Active buff abilities like rally, igneous weapons, surge, etc.

It depends what character I'm playing, i always have my spammable on L1 though. If im on a stam char i put my gap closer on square, CC on triangle, execute on R1 and rally on circle. I also change my button assignments so i can use the analogue stick to switch weapons, pressing left on the d-pad feels horrible.

It depends on the skills. If 2 skills make a combo I put them on L1 and R1. If 2 of the skills are supportive in some way they go there instead. I typically put AoE skills on circle, single-target or cone skills on triangle, and LoS or other skills on square.

How did you change it to swap weapons with analon stick? All I seen were changes for type a, b and c, i choose template c i think it is, where you hold triangle to swap weapons.

Abilities that are most frequently casted should always be placed on either L1 or R1 so that you are not required to stop moving to press them

I never seem to have issues moving and using square/triangle/circle at the same time. I do have large hands though.
