Hey i am curious how exactly does the undaunted passive work? Lets say i have 5 light, 1 heavy, 1 medium. Does that mean i get 10% extra magicka due to 5 light pieces? or will it just be 2% extra magicka, 2% stamina, and 2% health? Thanks for explanation, i havent quite got it yet.

Just 2% for each type so 6% in total :)

It will show as 6% when you hover over the passive.

Assuming you have Undaunted Mettle rank 2:
    • 7 light = +2% stamina/magicka/health
    • 6 light / 1 heavy or medium = +4% stamina/magicka/health
    • 5 light / 1 medium / 1 heavy = +6% stamina/magicka/health

Keep going! Was hard for me to get to undaunted 9 but it is well worth it. Gained around 1k extra magic. Others will benefit more.

I was lost on how 2% could help, but when it's 6% it really does add up. Be sure and make the chest heavy, head medium. I didn't do that and I realize now i could have had more armor protection than I do now.

You gain more protection but your magicka and regen go down more by donig it to the "core" pieces doesn't it? So it is a trade off....

Nope. The armour skill line passives work based on the number of pieces, not the type of piece. So, for example, the Recovery passive will give you +20% to your magicka recovery with 5 pieces of light armour whether those pieces include the head and chest or not.

The only things that are different depending on the type of piece (ie. whether it's the head, shoulders, chest, legs, hands, waist, or feet) are the armour values (chest gives the most, followed by head, shoulders, and legs, then feet, hands, and waist), and whether it's considered a big piece or a small piece for determining the potency of an enchantment on the piece.

    Thank you for explaining!

So When I went from 7 light to 5/1/1 to level up my other two my magica and regen went down because I had 20% (or whatever %) on 7 instead of 5 pieces?

Yes, with 7 pieces you would have been getting +28% to your regeneration, and with 5 pieces you would get +20%. IMO the tradeoff is worth it, though, as you get an additional +4% to each of your stats (+6% total, instead of just getting +2% for using only a single type of armour), and your resistance should jump up significantly if you're using a heavy chest piece and a medium helm or shoulder or legs.

Also, if you've been leveling your heavy and medium armour skill lines you can have points in the passives for them and get other bonuses that each help a little bit (not much with only 1 piece of each armour type, but still).

Undaunted Mettle is more valuable for magicka-based characters than it is for stamina-based characters. The primary reason for taking advantage of this passive is to increase your damage, so the primary feature here is either max magicka or max stamina. Having extra health and secondary resource is purely convenience.

As a magicka user, it's all but necessary to have a minimum of 5 pieces of light armor. However, there is no increase in damage for having 6 or 7 pieces of light armor; all you get is recovery, reduced cost, and spell resistance. These stats are important in their own right, but ESO pretty much drives everyone to maximize their damage as a damage role, and little to nothing else. Recovery, reduced cost, and resistances can all be made up in various other ways, with the most efficient methods being through the use of skills, such as Weakness to Elements, Siphoning Attacks, Mystic Orb, etc.

As a stamina user, you're aren't just giving up recovery, reduced cost, and resistance. There is actually a tradeoff here for damage. Having only 5 pieces of medium foregoes crit chance. Depending on the build, that crit% may or may not be preferred to an additional 4% stamina. Both of them will increase your damage, but deciding which is better comes down to doing the maths. I know players who optimize their damage with a 5/1/1 setup as a stamina build, but I also know players who optimize in full 7 medium.

Thanks so much! That is what I was doing. I have a vr16 sorc and during cake ran a new Templar from 1-vr7. LOL Hitting 50 tonight and putting back on the 7 light until I get the undaunted!

Yes this is right. Stamina go 7 medium. With light go 5/1/1.

Keep 7 light until you have undaunted maxed, but it would be helpful to keep one piece of each type on just to level them up to 50.

Wait a minute, you are saying 6% for each stat instead of 6% total? That would be a total of 18% increase in stats overall. So i would get 6% magicka, 6% stamina and 6% health? Cause the guy that posted before you said said it was 2% for each attribute not 6% . I hope i am making sense but the tooltip is confusing.

With 2 skill points in the passive it's +2% to each stat for each type of armour you're wearing.

So if you're only wearing light you get +2% to stamina, +2% to magicka, and +2% to health.

If you're wearing 6 pieces of light with 1 piece of heavy (or medium) you get +4% to stamina, +4% to magicka, and +4% to health.

If you're wearing 5 pieces of light with 1 piece of heavy and 1 piece of medium you get +6% to stamina, +6% to magicka, and +6% to health.

It's a great passive for sure, but it's one that has caused a lot of confusion in terms of understanding exactly how it works lol. You're not exactly the first person who's been confused by it!
