I'd suggest not saving him at all, unless you want to hear "Did you hear? Some stranger saved King Casimir's life!" over and over again for the rest of eternity.
If you're referring to the enemies on the lower level of the castle though, I don't believe you do; from memory they keep respawning. Just go upstairs and help the king.

Yes, I meant the enemies on the lower levels.
And about the whisper, read some strange thread about that.
Ok, so maybe I better leave it alone. Thanks!

Unfortunately I believe it's a core quest for that zone so you can't leave it alone. You'll just have to hate Covenant town NPCs like the rest of us.

Nothing in Daggerfall is an almanac quest.
Glenumbra is Beldama Wyrd Tree, Camlorn, Lion Guard Redoubt, and Cath Bedraud.
Guys, he's clearly a new player, you're just confusing him.
Saving king Casimir is a part of the main questline of Glenumbra, which in turn is part of the chain leading through all zones of the Daggerfall Covenant. I don't think this particular quest is mandatory, but it's best to complete it so you will experience the full story. You get skill points for some of these faction quests and they will eventually tie into the main story about the Prophet and Coldharbor.
Don't worry about NPC comments. Daggerfall is famous for its people shouting the strangest things on street corners, they're wonderfully quotable. Just keep saving people and enjoy the recognition.Fair warning though, the ale is a lie.
Don't worry, a lot of us came from the single player TES games and ESO was our first MMO. You will learn quickly. Welcome (back) in Tamriel!
As for the almanac, it's a vet rank thing. After you finish your own alliance, you'll be allowed to visit others. Cadwell's Almanac is a list of quests in each zone that you need to do in order to complete Cadwell's Silver and Gold (your second and third alliance, respectively). They're totally optional, but they're worth doing for skill points. Finishing Silver also unlocks the Soul-Shriven crafting style.

I mostly played FPS shooters before. I was actually interested in EOS because of the first person perspective. But now I mostly play using third person.
Alliances and guilds are still quite confusing.
As I understand it, you can join fightersguild and then do some quests for them?
I have been worried about choosing guilds. What if I choose the wrong one? Can I choose many?

But fair warning: If you get that character to level 50, you may not play any other games for a while. A long....long....while.
Well, that quest is easy, but wait for being lvl 6 to do it - sneak in, head to the stairways to the right, ignoring all the rest, go up to the upper floor - it is empty at this time, but you hear the fight on the ground floor - prepare to kill - soon king Casimir and Verrik will be up - and he is your only enemy to fight then - kill him with no mercy, brutal alpha damage attack and then execute him - done - wait until you get your reward and sneak out again. That's it.
