Optimal crit levels

V4 magicka nightblade playing since console launch here...my question is what do you think the optimal crit level for a magblade should be? I generally play solo so a mix of utility and DPS.

With some crafted greens/blues, Magelight, Thief stone and the 12% CP benefit, I was happily surprised to see a 67% crit on my desto bar (I hit the CP crit adder yesterday).

It made me wonder if trading out ML or Thief for something else might better round out my build. So, am going to test today but curious what other think.

The more you crit, the better and more DPS you do... if you drop either ML or Thief you will suddenly drop down to only 57% crit. It used to be if you were at least 50% Crit, then Shadow was the better mundus, but that all changed a few updates ago and testing has shown Thief is king even when above 50% Crit. Put a lot of CP points into Crit Damage as well, as this will only take further advantage of your high crit %.

As a MagNB I don't think you need a high crit%. Just spam cloak and stack weapon & crit damage

Depends on the content. In pvp raw spell damage / magicka is usually better than crit since many people use shields (which can't be critically hit) and the rest uses impenetrable armour which reduces your critical damage a lot.
For pve however crit is strong, especially if you have a lot of cp or do group content.

Anyway, no matter what people say, there is a formula to perfect crit chance, and when to invest in crit dmg etc.
But due to the broken 8 chars leaderboard system, Im gonna hold my information to myself for a while longer and laugh about the current meta.

Different class but on my stamina sorcerer I need to crit to live (heal) I noticed no real difference dropping from over 80% chance to 65% so I'm happy at that level as it gave me options to go for more damage.

Highest I could ever get my Crit w/o Thief stone on my Magblade was 68% and that was with 5 Piece Scathing Mage, Gold Precise weapons and Magelight. It wasn't a bad set up but I couldn't get Scathing Mage to proc as much as I'd like with it so I ultimately had to get the Thief Stone for it to be more consistent.

Your choice, of course. I am semi-casual and slow, and this is the toon I have been playing since console launch. I wouldn't understand meta if it bit me in the ass. I assume you mean FOTM. Either I was way ahead, or way behind, that curve.

Thanks to rest for the advice. Given I am PVE I'll keep it near 60 but the extra from ML is not worth the extra utility bit I get, at least as a soloer..

Meh, if you spam crit cloak in fights then why bother with high crit?

Hello its me again...

most top players (magNB) go full damage in vet maelstrom arena, and the build contais julianos and twice born with Thief + Shadow.
Meaning they focus on crit chance and crit dmg as min/max build.

So, if you aim for damage, i would do the same... in the tank post i suggested you julianos/twilight for solo content... but julianos/twiceborn is much better for dmg.
