I've been playing with spiders.
While grinding in the Alik'r Desert, I noticed a strange thing happening with two little spiders sitting off on their own, away from their eight legged pals.
Every time I would go to use my gap closer, (Explosive Charge; Templar), it would consistently fail to fire. Normally, when my gap closers fail to fire, I get an "Out of range" error at the top of my screen; Not so this time, no message, they're not too high, low, far, or close. I figured this was a perfect opportunity to figure out how to break out of the gap closer bug, and to my excitement, I found the fix!
How to fix it? Hit your target with a fully-charged heavy attack. Every single time, without fail, it has averted the bug, and allowed my gap closer to fire again.
Now currently, I have only tested this with Explosive Charge, using an Inferno Staff for the heavy attack. Once I finish grinding, I plan on testing this with other gap closers and weapons.
Here's where you come in.
If you are having trouble getting your temperamental gap closers to work in stressful situations, give my method a shot, and write back on this thread with your specific gap closer and weapon type. Any light we shed on this now will assist ZOS in nailing this bug to the wall.
As I have said above, the same two mobs in the same spot were consistently causing my gap closer to fail, until implementing my fix. Perfect opportunity! These two mobs are the trigger for the bug, if only I could figure out what makes them different from the others. So far, I have not. They seem like perfectly ordinary spiders, holed up in their perfectly ordinary little hole of sand in an abandoned (by people) quarry.
I'll update this post with more concrete information on the mob spawns, if anybody wants to take a looksee and help figure out
what exactly is causing the gap closer bug in the first place!
Be back soon!
EDIT: So far, I have been unable to accurately replicate the bug on the same mobs. These two mobs are still the only ones in the area that it refuses to fire, but it will intermittently fire just fine, with no changes being made.
