The Taboo: Murkmire (DLC #5)

So I was watching a new video from @fengrush when he brought up something that is very taboo, and seems to be under hush-hush. And answers the question of what's next after The Dark Brotherhood. Murkmire...

Murkmire supposedly may be the 5th DLC (not including Craglorn as DLC), and is the 2nd DLC in which the veteran rank system is removed (The Dark Brotherhood DLC being the first). The Imperial City was the first DLC, followed by Orsinium, and then The Thieves Guild. The Thieves Guild being being part one of two, with The Dark Brotherhood supposedly being the second and final part of this combo.

The location of Murkmire is south of Shadowfen, and resides within the Black Marsh. Meaning lots of: Argonians, forests/jungles, poison, etc.

Looking at it from the perspective of @fengrush shows that we may or may not have spell crafting by then, or a form of the justice system which was spoken about at that particular conference. What makes me think this, is the fact that we ARE receiving content which was ALREADY developed years ago. We are just receiving the expanded upon versions of it, and or polished versions of it. What are you alls's thoughts in the 5th DLC?

Note: This is all educated guessing that follows the "trend" of things being released. It is also speculation that comes from what the past has hinted to us.

Well yeah, from everything I have read and seen, TG, DB, Murkmire and Clockwork City have been in development for years.

Hopefully they're polished. TG is still a shiny ole turd.

This is the thing, either people have very short memories or they're simply grateful for whatever they can get, but this is content that's been in the making for years. Every one of these DLC hubs was prototyped and shown off two years ago at Quakecon. At that time, this was our road ahead - a subscription model and these DLC packs and game features which our subscription had paid for up until that point. Those sub fees might not have paid for the finished product in its entirety, but they at least covered the costs of prototypes and we are all of the understanding that these were free updates ala-Craglorn.

Now of course these are paid for again in the form of crowns, despite our subs for the first year+ actually funding the early development. Is it double dipping? Does it matter? Everyone will have their own thoughts on that, but that's essentially what it boils down to. Previously free content, fuelled by subs, now being resold as new.

I just hope Murkmire is a decent size, akin to Craglorn and Wrothgar. I mean, I liked TG well enough but the zone was really small. I also hope they add a new Dungeon, a vet mode for an existing dungeon or both with it, as well as maybe some buffs to Argonian Passives.

I can't help imagine Mephala will have her hands in something with Murkmire but that's just a random speculation based on nothing more than that 1 quest in southern Shadowfen.

Considering that the previous Adventure Zone, Craglorn, crashed and burned, what happens with Murkmire is really up for speculation. We know Murkmire, Mephala's Realm and Clockwork City are still to be released, all of which we have seen footage of some time in the past (Murkmire QuakeCon 2014, Mephala's Realm & Clockwork City at the B2P announcement).
Lots of assets that were created for these zones also already made it into the game, such as several stages in the Maelstrom Arena (Stage 2 for example has the Clockwork City skybox, and one stage boss is an Argonian Behemoth) and the Haj Mota in Hew's Bane.

Strangely, the zone that releases next (Gold Coast) has not been shown at all so far, except for one teaser pic of Kvatch last week or so. And we didn't know Dark Brotherhood would release with a whole new zone of the Gold Coast until fairly recently. So, whatever comes after DB, we might not even have seen or heard about yet.

Regardless, we'll probably learn what's next for ESO at E3. I suspect we'll se what they plan to do with housing there.

TG was pretty small and boring IMO.

I told more than a year ago that the planned big dlcs will be maybe the last ones. I guess this will bring us to 2018-19,and it is supposed that TESVI will appear around that period of time. I doubt there is more money invested for new dlcs after the announced ones. I guess its a "closed contract" and eventually the game will go f2p. There will be a lot of content by then so they will want new masses of players playing the game for free, etc. Is just how this world works.

    Of course, IMHO.

Agreed. Murkmire was supposed to be another Adventure Zone, and if it came out in the same style as Craglorn, there would probably be uproar. Although there are a number of small things that could drastically improve Craglorn which could be incorporated into Murkmire as standard. Then you need to consider the fact that Adventure Zones, by definition, are Veteran content, which conflicts with the DLC mantra that "as soon as you've bought it, you can play it", as if it stayed as an Adventure Zone, you wouldn't be able to play it if you hadn't yet reached Level 50. Based on that, the "Murkmire Adventure Zone DLC" literally cannot exist.

We haven't heard anything about Murkmire for so long, it's possible even that they scrapped it.

If they lift the restriction of requiring 4-player groups for several quests and remove the grouping barrier of veteran ranks, I could actually see an "adventure" zone scaled in difficulty for groups work quite well, even as DLC. One big issue with Craglorn was also that it had almost no rewards that made the content worthwhile, and they have improved upon that issue in later zones.
But I'm not sure if they want to follow that route, considering they focus a lot on solo PvE recently.

And IIRC, they mentioned on ESO live some weeks ago that Murkmire still exists, so I don't think it has been scrapped. They also show its teaser before each ESO live, so there's that.

Murkmire won't be DLC #5. I can guarantee it. ZOS heard the feedback from having to do quests in groups in Craglorn, and how it "breaks muh immersions" etc having to group with others rather than being able to do the zone solo, so they put it on a back burner.

DLC 5 will be small. I think we will get two bigger and two smaller DLC's a year. The Dark Brotherhood and the Gold Coast of Cyrodiil could be pretty sizeable. I also don't think all the quests in that chunk of land will be Dark Brotherhood related, and there's room for more delves and world bosses on that chunk of land than there was for Thieves Guild.

If I'm right, the Gold Coast of Cyrodiil should be around the same size as a zone like Greenshade.
