PS4 EU: Faction imbalance... One faction to rule them all

Discussion on the PvP Faction imbalance on PS4 EU server:

To be clear from the start, this isn't a crying or moaning thread (so tired of seeing negative threads)... I love the game, love PvP, and have had some questions in my mind for a while on the state of PvP and how it can possibly be improved. As I am fairly new to the forums I thought it might make for an interesting an insightful discussion to hear from the PvP community here on the forums, and to learn what others think on these issues.

The game has been out on PS4 console since June 2015... not even a year yet. On the PS4 EU server, currently, every PvP campaign is dominated by EP Reds. Every campaign has 3 bars for Red, with Yellow and Blue at 1 or rarely 2 bars. This shows that PvP players on PS4 EU are predominantly EP by a large percentage.

It seems to be a big imbalance, and one which in my own opinion has started to make PvP Campaigns a bit boring or futile at times on the EU server (as the underdog) with every campaign map being dominated by Reds, or Reds and Blues due to the current 'Red-Blue Allliance' that seems to have been here for a few months now (Reds and Blues fighting side by side and only attacking Yellow).

Second in PvP population seems to be DC Blues, and currently the underdog are AD Yellows.

What personally attracted me to the game back in June 2015, was the PvP. I thought it was an awesome design to have a war with three factions rather than two, and believed there would likely be more balance in PvP with a choice of three factions, as some games get one sided with just two PvP faction choices. On release, PvP was amazing, with lots of strategy and some amazing players met online.

Observations

For a few months now I have noted some interesting observations from PvP that seem to occur in most campaigns.

Over time the campaigns seemed to change in balance and the numbers started to pile up on the Red and Blue side, while Yellows became the minority that would sometimes only be in one campaign, or not really have a foothold in any campaign. While I have regularly come up against some really fantastic Blue players and learnt quite a bit from them as I lay bleeding on the battlefield ;) I haven't had the same experience from Red players, who mostly seem to swarm in zergs (though to be fair it may just be because they are in mostly in a swarm). I've noticed that Yellows seem to have a personal beef with Reds and although all the points and scrolls and objective may be over in the Blue zone, or the Blues are invading from the left, the few Yellows online seem obsessed to charge across Alesia bridge and seem to suffer an Obessive Compulsiveness to continually attack Sejanus Outpost (even when everything they need is in the opposite direction), and even ignoring the Blues to do this, and thus just continue to lose. There seems to be a Red-Blue Alliance, and over the last few months I have personally witnessed on a great many occasions, Reds and Blues fighting side by side to squash us pesky Yellow minority ;) Or even taking turns getting Emperor, taking all the castles while the opposite faction holds back the few yellows online, only to then swap around.

So I have been having some questions in my mind on this for a while and thought it would make for an interesting or enlightening discussion to put to the PvP forum community here, to learn what experienced PvP players (Red, Blue and Yellow) in the forum community think or feel about this imbalance on the PS4 EU server? ...how this PvP imbalance came to be? ...and if the same sort of imbalance happens on other servers? ...and why people think that it happens in the first place?

Questions:

I'll number the questions, and if you feel like joining in and answering one you can use the numbers or title to highlight your thoughts.

1: Do you as a PvP player, feel that there is a Faction imbalance on the PS4 EU Server campaigns?

2: Why do you think most players choose to go Red?
Sometimes I wonder if when creating a PvP character, people decide to join EP Reds simply because they are the most dominant PvP faction, and of course people want to play on the winning side of a campaign? What do you think? (especially interested in comments from Red players as you have all chosen to be Red for one reason or another).

3. Has there ever been an actual poll or statistic to measure the player Faction population?

4: Did you prefer to choose a Faction to play, or do you like to play a PvP character in all factions?

4: What made you choose your faction?

5: A question for PvP players on other servers... Was wondering if this same imbalance appears on other servers susch as PS4 NA, XBox, PC and Mac servers, or whether there is more balance, or maybe a different variety of imbalance?

4: Lastly, was wondering if anyone has ever thought of a possible good solution to create more balance in the campaigns in terms of regulating Faction presence? If so, please share your thoughts

Just to share my own experience... I have 6 characters now, all are AD underdogs, and I'm happy with my choice of faction as I played out the stories and environments for all and really liked the AD territories (love those forests), storyline and characters the most. I decided to play for a faction rather than have a character in each, so I picked a side, made a guild with some friends, and we all just kinda stayed there and made more characters in that faction. I think I've had the most fun in the baby campaign (Blackwater Blade), but this might just be because it was all new to many of us on the PS4 at that time, or maybe because the population in that campaign is lower with less lag and zergs. Azura Star was great fun for a while, but recently I feel campaigns have gotten a little unbalanced, and the current lag problems in Cyrodiil have made it a bit frustrating at times. However, I still enjoy PvP and regularly play, and I love Imperial City sewers.

First and foremost. I am honored to write something first on someone's else's post. Very first. ;) Next I must thank you for writing a very lengthy post and I really love this post. Therefore I will answer as best as I can.

    1. As a fellow PVP player. I must say. Yes and no. For example since I am on PS4 EU. And use to play Scourge all the time. When it first came out. (Was accidentally deleted when thieves guild dlc came out for PS4. Will return on April 6 2016.) Ever since I started playing in Scourge. I was mostly DC for about almost 2 years. (More details later)

Us DC tried really hard to fight EP. We always see EP. Hardly any AD. Except in bruma. But as many moons have passed. DC keeped vanashing. One by one. Until I was only DC left. (Sounds like a horror story lol. ) I am stuck in Scourge so I was unable to change because only campaign I won't get kicked or freeze. I became well known.

Anyways. Scourge became EP map. For almost 1 1/2 years. But finally change last month when AD kept on pushing. In the end. Before Scourge was accidentally deleted. The map became pure AD map.

    2. I believe on reason why mostly everyone played as EP one point. (Including me in Scourge. More details later) Is because in the lore. The EP king (I am bad at names :( ) is a skilled warrior. Therefore. Lots of EP are skilled and masterful at war. ( I am to confusing) Therefore it makes since on why in Cyrodiil, there will always be alot of high number EP warriors in each campaign.

However. AD is also mostly dominated other campaigns also. Which in turn. Brings back to us in lore. AD won the war in Cyrodiil. (Please correct me though. I read this somewhere but having hard time of finding it again. If there is any corrections to this. Please let it be known) About most create EP charaters and fight on winning side. Yes and no for me. More details later. Can't speak for anyone else.

    3. I believe there was one poll long time ago. But can't remember what itnwas about sadly or name.

4.Here I will put my details on why I choose my faction(s) Since beginning of game for PS4 EU. I choose to be DC because I know some friends that I made in another video game. However I wanted to play in different alliance at that time. But my friends quit game. I was usually alone in Cyrodiil in Scourge. Was only DC now. I became Vet 16 in Scourge. Unable to play in any other campaigns. Due to being kicked out alot and freezing. Hence why I love Scourge.

Unable to feel left alone. I decided I had to make a choice. So I met this red Emperor. We message each other in different language. On should I become a red so I won't be left alone and I be able to join in your group. Red say's sure. But one condition. I must delete my vet 16. (O The horror.) So I did. In honesty. I felt alright. Many stuff happened to me when I was on my DC anyways. Plus removing of Vetran Ranks made it easier to.

So I joined the Reds. At this point Scourge was still all red map. Hasn't changed except when AD kept on pushing more. However since us reds got everything I wasn't happy. No fun at all to be on winning side. Since AD started to push every single day when I was on my red. I wanted do that. I wanted to join AD.

AD keeped on reminding me who I was. Whom I wanted to be. Whom DC used to be and do. I want all of that! I want to fight everyday. Fighting for something. Fighting for a cause. Fighting for honor and freedom. I want to tear down keeps. I want to get destroyed. Getting destroyed while trying to taking something and claiming. Instead of us reds have everything. No offense.

But one day. I meet these two AD Kajiit nightblades and another AD. Keeped on destroying me. I became fascinated. My eyes began to open. Have this odd feeling inside of me. I wanted to learn more. I became curious. So I decided I wanted to duel them.

So I and two other reds dueled them. I keeped on dying of course. Since I was level 30. But I became happy. (Turning into love story? So weird. Sigh) My feelings began to wash out all over me. My wretched but honest of deep despair. I finally decided to take mesure. Not in revenge. But in a curious odd way.

So I wrote to this one AD. (Who I am currently now friends with those three AD.) I was expressing my emotions, my feelings. My concerns. To this one AD. Told her I wasn't happy. You AD reminded me what DC used to be like in Scourge. How you AD fight everyday. Keep pushing. Fighting for a just cause. Fighting for freedom. I am tired of having all the keeps. It is no fun.

I forgot most of what she wrote sadly. But she did say it is my choice. What ever is in your best interest. Don't let anyone push you around. Don't let anyone choose where you should go. You choose on what you wanted to do. You are you. Whatever makes you happy. Go for it. I was so happy. To read these words. So happy to meet these wonderful AD on this day.

So I keeped on writing to this very same AD. Back and forth. Finaly I made a diagram. (The one with the 3 circles. 2 big circles. 1 small circle in middle.) about what am I happy about. What I am not happy. Which alliance best suits me more. Serving the reds while having everything. Or rather serving the yellow's instead who have nothing. But kepped on pushing. But turns out. I have way more good things about me serving AD instead of serving EP. (Please note: This was my own doing. I did this volunterly. My own choice)

So I sent her this picture of diagram I made. I was so happy. So relieved. I wrote to her. That I decided of my own choice and on my own free will. (Instead of relying on others to choose for me) So I wrote to Red Scourge Emperor. Told him I wasn't happy and so forth. Red wished me luck. There ends my 1 week of becoming red. I am become AD. I became happy. Us group of 27 AD kepped on pushing reds. In Scourge.

We AD finally made Scourge yellow. For about 2 weeks. Then more new reds showed up. I was happy. Scourge became more fun again. Reds keep pushing us back. But we haven't lost emperorship. Many more days have past. Blues started to come back in Scourge. I became so joyous. Every day. Scourge became more fun now. So many flying colors. Red and Blues keeped on pushing us AD. Very hard. We had to get reinforcments from other campaigns.

But somehow us AD keep on holding that 1 yellow castle that was left. If that castle was fallen we loose emperorship. Every day it was like this lol. Until that very sad and fateful day. When Thieves Guild DLC came out on PS4.Scourge became deleted by accident. ZOS claimed Scourge was accidentally deleted. But will return on April 6 2016. So I am stuck in playing in freezing and laggy campaign for me lol. (Also two of my friends are being kicked out and laggy to)

But anyways even though my mind sometimes waivers who I actually belonged and branded as a traitor to some. I am proud and happy to serve AD still. My AD is currently Vet 6 1/2. Before I begin to close. I unsure how to make a balance campaign. But wanted to say I really and loved this forum post you wrote. I thank you for letting me expressing myself fully on here. Eventhough very long. I am happy and was quite a pleasure to do so. I also play on PS4 EU server. My PSN gamertag is Serjustin19 I wish you good luck my friend

Ever since I started PvPing ~Aug15, we have always been dominated by DC and AD - regardless of our numbers - on every Campaign I've been in (BwB, pre-TGuild Azura & now Haderus).

I seriously can only recall one time that we have we had Emperorship and that was in BwB, Aug/Sept15.

Really? and you are EP? Hmmm, I can't see how. If you look, every campaign has 3 bars for EP. AD has a presence in Thornblade right now, and a few in Azura, but even there Reds have 3 bars. Reds have the biggest populations by far. Reds have Emperor almost all the time

Yeah we always have a lot more players but in whatever campaign I've been in we always get battered irrespective of that and as I say, I can only recall us having Emp once.

Maybe there's just not as many PvP guilds, we're lacking coordination through too many solo players or we're simply just worse players on average. Numbers don't necessarily equate to performance, though.

As the servers are down I can't check Emp statuses and it may have changed in Azura since I left.

Maybe its been a while since you PvP'd? Yeah you have swarms of Reds. Blues have quite a few. Yellows are pretty scarce, thankfully most yellows moving into one campaign as been scattered too thin across different campaigns. I PvP regular and Reds have had emperor regularly in Azura, Thornblade, Hazurus and Chillrend. Thornblade seems pretty balanced right now, thankfully. Azura too. Chillrend is now dominated by Reds.

No I PvP regularly but as I say, only in Azura pre and Haderus post-TGuild.

Atkinson has been the only Emp I can recall in my time in those campaigns and was a few days back in Haderus the last time I bothered to check.

Yh Azura became the only campaign yellows were doing well in before TG release. My favorite kind of campaign is one that is not dominated by any faction. Being in a dominated campaign is very boring, no matter which side of the fence I'm on. The best campaigns are when all three factions have a good population, lots of push and pull, win and loss. Lately that seems to be a thing of the past

I think that was how the game was designed and intended... but it seems peeps just want to be on the winning side and all jump to the winning faction which creates a huge imbalance

Yeah a good population is always the best and once you have that then I'm happy because if even you have loads of keep or a few, there's always fights to be had.

Hmm.. I don't necessarily agree with the main reason for the numbers inbalance being due to people Alliance jumping because of want to be on the winning side. I mean, sure, it'll happen occasionally but as it takes a lot of time to level a character to a level at which they can gain enough AP worthy of end of campaign rewards bonus from their Alliance winning - I imagine this is few and far between.

I never played Skyrim but as I guess that (could be wrong, here) was more EP orientated it could be a reason for the increased numbers in EP. Then when their non-Skyrim-playing friends come, they naturally fall in with EP (as in my case) so they can play with them.

Although more simply, red is a lot of people's favourite colour and also the colour of popular football teams (United, Liverpool, Arsenal). So maybe they have something to do with it.

    Edit:
Furthermore, Nord is the only race I can think of which has any sort of real life connection so Scandanavian players may find it more appealing to go EP.

Or possibly it has something to do with EP's crest showing a dragon which are common in fantasy games/books whereas DC has a lion and AD has an eagle (I think it is).
