casual alt leveling question.

When I level an alt I generally hit 20 fairly quick and then use main to grind out some TV stones to get them some decant starter gear from the merchant in IC. so they all end up with some kind of IC set at level 20. When is a good time to upgrade the armor sets? I only have time to play around 30mins most days unless I am off then I have enough time to run a dungeon or two. I don't just grind out the levels to hit VR ranks because I get bored and want to run a dungeon or something to take me away from grinding( sometimes even pvp.) So what are good levels to swap gear out for the higher level sets?

Frankly, I don't even care about 'sets' on my alts till I hit vet 1 with them.. Just make them gear with the training/exploration trait on it. Typically I do the 3-2-2 tactic. 3 is the main armor they'll use - so heavy if tank, light if magicka, and medium if stamina. That way I can level up all three. Put exploration on one the the 3 pieces, and training on all other items.

Just craft em something at level 10, then at level 30ish.. That should easily last you till level 50 unless you decide to PvP with one of these characters.. I know you said you like to run dungeons, but at low level I don't think that's even worth it.. Just switch to your main and do PvP/dungeons when you get tired of grinding. That's what I do, cause you'll get rewards/drops that you can actually use.

Pretty much what I do. Sometimes I would even forget to upgrade. Hahaha.

I remember getting my tank up to VR1.. and was invited to tank vet spindle (back when it was more difficult) and oh how we struggled. After we gave up.. I realized I was wearing like level 38 green training/exploration gear.. lol

I upgrade when I start having problems killing things and surviving, or if I just feel like making armor.

I'd suggest a few ideas at level 10-14 and beyond

1 If you're into PvP....find a guest campaign with or without Champ Pts and get AP or TV stones
2 If you're a PvE person like me....just start running randoms at level 14 and use the set gear that drops AND run Maelstrom Arena

Those are my suggestions unless you want to craft a set which ....also works at any level

^This. The gear doesn't matter much until you get to veteran group dungeons/trials or want to take the character into Cyrodiil.

Only thing I would suggest is to include at least one light, heavy and medium so you will level all three skills, and keep putting different abilities on your bar so you can level all the class and weapon skills at the same time.

Other than that, if grinding I use Willow's Path, which provides enough regen from the 5pc bonus that you don't need stop to repair armor until you get to endgame. I've used the same broken lowbie level 4 Willow's Path all the way to V10.

I've got a pretty decent crafter so I change gear every 15 to 20 levels.

I've found that while leveling, the sets that provide max attribute or regen to be much more effective than worrying about sets that provide crit or weapon/spell damage, like Seducers for magic based characters or Nights Silence/Morkuldin for stamina users. If you plan to do any thieves guild stuff, I'd go with Nights Silence for both, actually, and just enchant them with whatever attribute you need (stam or magicka). At low levels, I've found resource management to be much more of an issue than damage, generally.

I don't tend to have issues since i normally play in the scaled areas and do scaled dungeons.

as far as this goes my main is a healer and idk not as fun as it used to be to me it lost the flare. when I do dungeons i do it scaled to v 16 so i know my gear effects how i am scaled this is why i ask

I wear 5 1 1 to level all armors and the one I want to play mainly is the 5. Then I put training on all emeralds and carnelian. I change every approx 10 levels. Usually it's 14 then 24 34 44. Then vr 1 no training 6 then 15.

Exactly what I do. And I craft just 2 sets now : one at lvl 15 and one at v1. And an extra weapon for lvl 30 and v10.

I've leveled 9 characters (well, let's say 8 since the main char doesn't count as rerolling), and they leveled quite fast, without me loosing too much time crafting/collecting with my main.
What? Lead? Me? No, no, no. No leading. Bad things happen when I lead. We get lost, people die, and the next thing you know I’m stranded somewhere without any pants.

I typically go 10 levels between gear changes on my alts. I make them improved to blue and call it good. I might change gear sets each 5 levels as the enchanting potencies level up and give more stats.

I do remember doing some Theory Crafting my DK that I am now leveling (currently at L35). I was going over the various sets I could make and the dropped set items I could pick up to make some really good combos for max stats and power. Then I remembered, I have 460 plus Champ Points, I don't need gear, I don't need to theory craft, I can run around naked with an L1 Iron Sword and mow down the mobs.

So, now I don't even worry about it.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

This. I have some leveling sets that I pass between alts as they level up, but if you have a good amount of CP you could probably level 1-50 by setting your keyboard on the floor and letting your cat walk on it.

I usually craft a set of lvl 4, lvl 20 and lvl 30-35 gear if I want to lvl an alt. All with training traits. :)
I wouldnt use tel vars, since theyre going to add something more valuable to tel var merchant in the next update.

I do it every 10. And usually make them blue. With the set bonus they are usually as good as anything you can find.

If you pvp id do it more often since it helps with the adjusted stats in cryp.

I usually just give my alts found green stuff - one of the reasons I like levelling them in triplets (one for each armor class to distribute the loot). Generally try to keep the weapon current, and the armor... around 5 levels, as stuff drops (or gets found my higher characters looking for treasure chests to level legerdemain...).
But gear really isn't worth spending much effort on until you get to endgame levels IMO...

see I don't craft. IK all of you are thinking why? but its simple I refuse to keep doing the wait for research timers id rather give a guild mate 5-10k +mats to craft me an end game set then try and get all the different stuff I need to do it. For me it is way too much haha. As far as the TV stones go I generally make 1k per circle(normally carry 1k stones at the start) I do so getting 5k stones for a set for my alts is like 20-30 mins of grinding on my main. then I can have a set gear for them that will last a while.

For fun I make my alts wait until they reach certain levels, and then as a present for turning 20 or 30 or whatever they get a nice blue Hundling's set or whatever.
But you have to be a good earner, too....put some gold in the bank....

At that stage, a crafted blue set can last you 10-20 levels.

When i leveled my alts i made them a good set around level 20 (really no need for that before 20), then another around level 40. They all ended up using their level 40ish sets well into the lower VR ranks.

Heck, i remember running parts of Craglorn solo with a VR2 that was still wearing his level 42 blue armor and weapon set.

I generally craft a set of Blue at the start of each Zone. It'll be better than anything that will drop.

But the free Skill Point from each Group Dungeon and the Public Dungeon Bosses are extremely valuable to lowbies. The regular dungeons were intended to be part of the leveling process, and they're also good for learning how to integrate group play before reaching VR.

Crafting has its advantages. Its your choice ofc, but for many people its more convenient to have their own crafting char that is available 24/7 :)
Also, you can start wearing training 5/1/1 setup and this way you unlock armor and weapon passives and skills very fast. Not that tel vars are hard to get - but there's better ways imo.
