How do YOU play? A discussion of rewarding styles of play.

Well, looks like the NA PC megaserver is down for now. So here's what I propose to pass the time, a little discussion how we each enjoy this game. I'll start!

I absolutely love how with a little work and theory crafting, you can create a build that is distinct to your own play style without being punished too much for it. Let's face it, there will always be the flavor of the month min maxed builds, but they bore me. The character I have had the most fun playing was my magicka sorcerer with a pet build. It felt so much fun commanding my own little group of minions and watching my opponents in Cyrodiil have to decide on the fly whether or not to push the attack on me or to try to take down my pets quickly to leave me vulnerable. I'd win fights and lose fights, but always have a good time.

How about you? What do YOU enjoy playing?

I enjoy playing builds where I take an optimal build made by a theory crafter and then tweak it a litle. In Hearthstone for example I ran a zoo lock but I used 1 hellfire since no one would expect it. In WoW I used to change 1 or 2 of the tallents to something I like rather than what "pro" players say is the best. Same in ESO. For my non vet build (Stam NB PvP) I swaped an abillity that I didn't like from my Bow bar to the Poison Arrow spray.

For Content I liked Raids in WoW. Here I like Cyrro and Group PvE (I have only done imperial sewers so I don't know if the rest is fun, but that one was).

Edit: I also prefer to have 1 maim that I play a lot ratter than a bunch of Alts I spend the same amount of time on (ESO makes the alt experience even worse due to mount learning and skill points locked behind quests so here it doesn't even feel worth it to make one)

I just play what makes the most sense. I have Optimized builds and builds that aren't optimized but work for a very specific environment/reason (My thief character for instance, whom I will never use in trials or dungeons).

I have a tank that is designed strictly for 4-man content, a 12 man Trial DPS, and my main who can be a little more flexible. I also have a non-optimized (but very effective) Dragonknight Healer and a mule.

I really have no idea what I'm doing. I created a NB, she uses a sword and shield, focusing on siphon and shadow skills, with healing staff on the second bar. I've also added a lot of Fighter's Guild and Undaunted skills to both bars. The other day I did a dungeon run and ended up tanking the main boss at the end, and still have no idea what I did to draw its attention from across the room, but managed to do it successfully.

I also enjoy my Templar crafter V16. She's been with me almost since release and I will wander around gathering crafting material for hours, kind of relaxing and mind numbing after a full week.
Blessed are those who explore the unbeaten path...

I play both solo and with a group of 3 other RL friends.

When I'm with my friends, we focus on PvE and since we've only got a few hours to play together each week that means dungeons mostly and a bit of the main storyline questing if we can finish the dungeon in time (or at all in some cases) (we're still working those characters up to VR16 after about 2 years of play).

Solo I mostly play on my main, a Breton Magicka Nightblade who's specced for Healing and/or DPS depending on what I'm doing.

On any given solo evening I'm likely to:
    - Knock out some PvE quests,
    - Do some crafting writs
    - Spend an annoyingly long amount of time trying to make inventory space despite having max sized bags, horse carry and bank.
    - Crafting to upgrade gear for myself and my friends
    - Thieving : started this with the launch of the Justice system and have taken it back up with the release of TG.
    - Dungeoning with PuGs as a healer.
    - And, lately, PvPing solo in Cyrodiil, which I'm terrible at but slowly getting better (I kind of want to make a video called "Nightblades are nothing to be scared of" which highlights all the times I get brutally mangle-murdered even when I get the drop on someone).

You have my philosophy down exactly. I can hardly remember what each does and no matter how often I tell myself it's X, Y, B, THEN the bumpers, it doesn't work. If I can stay alive I figure I won.

Currently playing a PvE Bow/2H Khajiit Sorc with pets, makes me feel like a Hunter from WoW. It works perfectly, one pet tanks the other is ranged & heals, I do loads of damage, and my repair bill is very minimal most of the time. I heard 2H is bad for PvE, but I like it as it makes clearing public dungeons solo so much easier, I can slaughter large groups while taking little damage myself.

I look at something for a few days after the release of a major patch, think about it... think about it a little more... and then.... spend about 300 hours gathering materials for new crafting gear... think about it some more... and then... spend about a year finding and researching traits... think about it a little more.. and then suddenly bam! I've got a nice build... wait no, that didn't work out quite how it was supposed to... Alright... spend 300 more hours gathering mats... think about it a little bit... this time I'll get it right.

I don't worry overmuch about maximizing my DPS or anything like that. I don't do Trials or chase Leaderboards so no need. Nor do I run speed runs on dungeons either, except by accident.

Me, I play the build I want to play and strive to make the most out of that build. For example, I have an Imperial Magic DK who sports Heavy Armor, 1H/S and a Destro Staff that I run as a DPS. Not optimal at all, in fact, I am challenged by more content with this character and that makes it more fun. I have a Breton Stamina NB and he does just fine, but again, not optimal at all. I have a Breton Sorcerer, and she is quite the powerhouse. My Templar is an Altmer. The last two are at least optimized to some extent. However even on them, I don't have 40K Magic and 4K Spell Damage, don't need it, don't want it. Mobs melt fast enough as it is.

I have fun on all 4 of my characters, and I feel that I can take them into any dungeon other than vWGT and not have to worry about holding up my end.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

I was playing a Mag Sorc pet build too, but decided to try something else the other day. On a whim I tried the 5pc undaunted infiltrator set with a lightning staff. The range damage of my heavy attacks is fairly decent with correct champ points and the disintegration procs off the heavy attack AOE.

Also, with a shock enchant on the lightning staff, casting wall of elements is setting players off balance like crazy. It weird to run 5pc medium armor on a magicka sorc but it's working really well.

Sorry I actually had the DOT damage turned off here for some reason.but you can see the "off balance" which was my cue to dawnbreaker.

I tried this set up on my DK too with molten armaments and I was getting even better damage of the heavy attacks but the lack of mobility compared to sorc and no disintegration doesn't seem to be worth it.

I bounce around. I tend to get OCD about doing THE THING for a while until it bores me to death and then I hyper focus on something else for a while. I rotate between 3-4 characters at a time and that helps me not get bored. I was hyper focused on maxing multiple characters on levels. When I got bored with that I decided I wanted to make a stam sorc.I put her on a shelf for a little while and will return to her later on. I decided to play catch up on my magicka DK on anything I missed with her (must have all of the achievements). I farmed for ages so I could sell ALL THE MATS, and then I spent all my monies on things to make my VR16 magicka DK glorious. I tried to fish for a while but that got boring super fast lol. I have so much more to do though. I don't think I will ever finish everything.

@Moonscythe I do the exact same, especially if I change between characters xD.

Just came from Cyrodill, nobody seems to understand that all I want is to play the lute for them so I have to run away healing myself, because they keep attacking me ;___;...

On a serious note now, yesterday I was in a group of 5 people at a daily world boss in Wrothgar, I honestly didnt know what I was doing, I kept staring at how well others can dodge, spamming healing spells for them and feeling like the worst player in ESO.

I main a magicka dk who's sole mission is to burn roast and cook any player I can find. I'm either solo or with one or two other people. Afternoons and evenings are spent in the sewers and mornings (when I can) up in cyrodil. I leave pvp either to respec skills or buy mats for gear changes to tweak my build and that's about it. Build is constantly changing and evolving until I find my sweet spot and even then I get hair brained ideas all the time. I usually end up back the way I started. Sometimes you can find me dueling somewhere. I enjoy showing players that magicka dk is not dead and what it's truly capable of in the most violent way possible...watch 'me burn

PVP In Blackwater since the game was released nearly everyday but only for 2-3 hours.

I never craft at all and only wear whatever is given via mail rewards.

Haven't got a clue about glyphs, gear and all that.

But I have fun which is what playing a game is about.

Right now, sadly, running dat parody spec. Find 2 enemy groups fighting, charge up det, ult bomb them, los, repeat. Unfortunately, that's the only solo play I'm finding on xbox NA atm, its so zergy with everyone farming for those RoTW and end of campaign rewards.

My favorite role was NB healer for small group pvp. The ability to instantly go from a very strong support build to aoe burst and back again 10 times in a battle is just so much fun. Unfortunately in the current meta, as a magblade, soul tether is just too good to switch out for soul siphon =/

Well I have started a Magika nightblade. This is not because of vicious death. This is because I have been playing sourc for so long I am a bit bored of it and because I can share my v16 gold sorc gear with the Magika nightblade. Also because I fought and died several times to good Magika nightblades in duels as a sorc and thought it would be nice to try it out

I watched syper and some other videos for tips and picked up somethings on what skills to use and how to evade quickly in pvp. I have now turned to grinding ic sewers. Yesterday I got to 5500 stones after using to 2 pots and having 0 armour then died to npc and lost 500 stones, lol. I came across two ad who tried to gank me but I cloaked into the shadows. Currently vet5 after only 4 days!

Something I've always loved doing is collecting materials, looting containers, pickpocketing npcs and cracking open chests/lockboxes.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy questing, dungeons, crafting and all that too. I just like gathering a whole lot more. I could spend hours doing nothing but just running around a zone picking stuff up.
