My theory on Assistant Pricing

I still dont really see the point in it to be honest... You can reach any city where you can sell, use the bank, fence in less than 5 minutes, so I wouldnt call buying an assistant with 5000 crowns a convenience.

Now I am starting to be afraid about the barber shop, will they charge what, 3000 crowns per character you want to change? I understand it is a company and it needs to make money, but this is getting ridiculous, its an NPC not a full game.

Yeah, that's the thing about this price that just baffles me.

I kinda suspect the price was calculated based on how quickly players picked them up on the PTS build. Given they were new, interesting, and cost 1 crown... :\

    @starkerealm

But there is the point, people bought them because they were 1 crown!
Or is Zos logic that 1crown = 5000?

The PTS's crown store works a little differently. You have 5k Crowns, if you have less than that, it gets reset to 5k on login (IIRC). Everything in the crown shop costs 1 crown. Which is why we didn't know about this pricing until now.

I've got the sinking suspicion that the 5k price was calculated based on the number of players who bought the item, the speed at which the items were purchased, and probably some statistics on item use by testers.

Now, this could just be paranoia. It's possible the 5k cost was calculated based on crown store sales rates in the past, or some other metric. But... it fits with the price being so absurd.

The price the OP suggests is way to cheap. Granted, I understand we all want things cheap and free but Zos is here to make $$$. I'd expect between 2500 to 5k crowns and it's a reasonable price. Probably spot on with the regimentation the OP makes.

@starkerealm But does Zos realize that they are selling one Npc for the price of a full game?
If your theory is right it means they believe people would actually pay that much... and of course there are a lot of people that would pay such a price, but still it is ridiculous...

What makes me afraid is that, if many people are ready to pay such a price for one NPC, can you imagine the prices of DLCs in the future? Eso will have no subscription which is what everybody wanted, but instead it will only be played by people that are ready to pay a fortune for something minimal and full of bugs.

There are expensive items, sure. Outrageously priced? Nah. Outrageous is what BDO does: remove almost all visual gear progression from the game and put it in the cash shop with a $30 price tag for a single costume. Maybe ZoS executives looked at BDO, looked at eachother and said: lets see if we can do something like that too.

I could care less about the reasons for the exuberant cost, and I am certainly not one to tell others how they should spend their hard earned money.

All I know is that this guy will not be spending what equates to the cost of an entire game to buy a silly NPC pet that has limited functionality. Hell, I would not spend 5k crowns even if the Merchant was Chuck Norris and he could save me from imminent death and clear dungeons for me.

I'm honestly not sure if they are. As crazy as that may sound.

Well, if it's any consolation, it looks like only about 3% of the forums are going for that price... so I can't imagine these guys selling, unless they go on sale.

That said, yeah, I share your fears, in this.

Sorry, but there are already many OUTRAGEOUS priced items in the crown store.
Nothing in the current store should exceed 2000 crowns other than DLC....period.
