Have a question.

Basically I'm thinking of using destro/DW on my sorc, and trying out the twilight / clanfear (which gives the better heal by the way?)

Anyway, I want to use destro on the front bar for the weaving and on the DW bar use Magicka det.

So my question is, if I cast Magicka det from the DW bar which would have a higher SD, when it actually explodes does the damage scale from the bar it scales from, or the current bar id be using when it explodes? (If I was on the destro bar for example)

Thanks for any replies

It should be set by the bar you cast it from.

I tried but never used DW as not being able to Weave Attacks did not make up for the slightly higher damage I was getting. I say slightly as Weaving allows me to better manage my resources so I would run out much faster with DW so that put me at 0 DPS or whatever I could do with Light/Heavy Attacks waiting for potion cool down.

The proxy det damage may change cause I know that some skills that you do same method with works off SD Stat from dw bar and some don't. Cause the buff to wall of elements damage changes if you switch to a weapon that's not another maelstrom destro staff. But you do still get the buff to your light and heavy attacks for the 6 seconds

This is interesting to me. When I was testing my vMA destro, I found that if I put the destro on my off-bar with WoE, then switched to a single-target bar (not a vMA destro) then I lost the extra light attack damage. But I did this test before the TG update, and I did it before I got a 2nd vMA destro too. Now I'm running two vMA destros, so it doesn't matter for me specifically any longer. What are your thoughts on this @Oh_Skrivva ?

I didn't test the vma destro staff buffs to see if they were still granting buffs until after TG update. So I can't compare them. But I do believe that you should get the buff/damage of whatever ability you cast on whatever weapon you are on and it not change if you swap bars. If they won't allow that then make a choice on what's it gonna be. Not some skills and some buffs remain but others don't. I would run 2 vma staffs as well. Especially for my mag dk. Cause I don't have room for WoE on my front bar due to ardent flames abilities on that bar because of buff to ardent abilities with molten whip slotted. It's BS that WoE damage drops if you switch weapons but maelstrom bows damage doesn't change when you put volley down and switch bars and do your spanm rotation.

I was faced with the same limitations. Prior to TG, I was using Entropy on my single-target bar for Sorcery and a small dot, plus the 2% magicka. I was okay giving this up for WoE. But with Inner Light being a passive benefit with an active Empower, I simply could not pass this up on my primary bar. I now run Inner Light on both bars (whereas I was not running it at all before, despite the extra magicka it gives), which means I have no room for WoE on my primary.

Since I did manage a 2nd vMA destro, it doesn't really matter anymore. But I was still curious to know what you had learned in your testing, so thanks for sharing!

Appreciate the comments, though I'm still unsure which is the correct answer

Its easy to test now. Just turn on Combat Text, and go find a Mammoth, Giant or other high health target and try it both ways and note how much damage you do. Prior to TG there was no way for the consoles to really suss this information out, and on the PC, we needed an addon.

But, now, all the information you need to answer this in the game. While there might be a slight variation in the damage results, after a few fights, you will know exactly how it all works.

Ah thanks, I wasn't aware they added this feature.

Your Proxi det damage will scale from the bar that you are currently on, so if you cast it on a Dual Wield Bar but swap to staff bar, it will hit for less damage
