Questions about ESO........

AchillesLastStand
Burnt out with BDO after a few weeks and am curious about this seeing as it was on sale.
I have a few questions...
Are server populations robust?
Good variety of loot/armor and character progression/development?
Good quest variety?

Thank you.....

A few server issues now and then (pvp lag, or just random crashes).
Varies per user. I personally never really have trouble other than in PvP when a LOT of people are in a fight.

Sever Population is decent across the board and on the rise (PC)

Stupid amount of loot. and most of it IS stupid. One of the biggest issues PvErs have with the game is the RNG and the Bound on Pickup that is on most PvE rewards. But those are end game annoyances, you won't really notice until you're at End Game content.

World is beautifuly crafted - the stories/quests are normally entertaining and fresh. The actual quest (what you have to do) is aligned with usual mmorpg stuff though.
PvE - for an MMORPG it actually does quite well, but it's still an mmorpg.... fetch quets are fetch quests.

I find dungeons (and vet dungeons) super fun, but for 'hardcore' players, they are a grind. Same with trials (bigger team dungeons basically - would be your equivalent of raids I guess)

Orsinium and Theives Guild also add variety to end game content with tougher World Bosses and Dungeons - and content specifically aimed at exploiting new game mechanics/content (theif heists, restricted areas a-la-assassins creed)

My biggest issue as far as mmos go would be character progression. I feel weaker at the end of the game than at the begining.... but thats an issue Bethesda has always had. It's a bit counter intuitive when you're used to Asian Mmos. But basically character progression is secondary to KNOWLEDGE of your character. Theres a ton of skills to develop but they do so on their own as you use them and it isn't hard. You can max out almost every skill and re configure your stats for in-game gold, so the character progression is more of a time sink that ought to be used wisely to learn your character, whats good and whats not. But ultimately if you have gold, you could just grind like crazy and after a week theres no 'character' progression left. (exagerration, I play casually and took me about 9 months to get to vet level when the game came out - since things are sped up from release, would probably take a casual players a few months today : 3-6) Or almost none. It becomes more of a 'finding the right gear for the skills you use, and getting the best combination of all of that'

If you're a pve guy, it's a must try. I've not played BDO, but a few friends left to try it out. They're all back in ESO now and had nothing good to say About BDO.

Ive played it and I have to say its not bad. I probably wont stay with it tho because once you hit a certain level then anyone can just kill you. So probably once I hit that level Ill just stop playing. I had my fill of open pvp in ultima online lol.

If you dedicate to crafting in ESO you can eventually craft equal or better loot than what comes out of end-game content with a few exceptions like jewelry which oddly can't be made or upgraded. Stats on items in this game are pretty normalized based on level and quality, so you're on equal footing with everyone else.

    Welcome!

Spacemonkey gave you a good summary.
I think you will find that ESO has a number of different things to do. Gear is not only dropped, but there are some very good crafted sets. You can invest in crafting yourself or find a crafter to make things for you.

The world feels quite alive and there are a lot of things to do, be it quests, group dungeons, PvP or just general gathering. The community is generally friendly as well.

I've not PvPd in BDO at this point, but I've been PvPing in ESO for the last few months and once you figure out what you are doing it's a lot of fun.

Running with a good guild that focuses on strategy rather than numbers helps a lot.

    I hope you enjoy it.

I don't have this experience at all. xP low level and low champ point PVP can be hard, but especially with the change in PVP servers I find this game to be very accessible and fair for all levels PVP wise.

Anyway. I recommend it. It's a great game. Just don't hang out on the forums too often because you'll see a lot of self-important people making mountains out of molehills.
    • PVE is A+++ beautiful graphics, lots of questing, Many achievements to get. Lots of expansions to add to the never ending questing list.
    • You can do both solo and group content for both PVE and PVP. You aren't "forced" to do any content you don't want to.
    • Most content is open to a wide range of levels. PVP and group dungeons are open to players as low as level 10.
    • Character build is completely customizable and you can really get creative with all aspects of it (gear, champion points, attributes, class etc)
    • There is tons of support in the form of guides and youtube videos on the web about how tos, min maxing, theories etc. for both PVP and PVE fanatics
    • A huge population of players, especially new players from the winter free to play weekend. Now is a great time to start as there will be a lot of players around your level.
    • Lots of active guilds for whatever your focus (PVP, PVE, RP, Trials, trading, questing, etc)
    • A pretty good community with helpful people (always have trolls but overall very nice people in all factions)
    • Almost no bots as zos has been pretty diligent with this
    • Massive trade and farm economy. easy to make money
    • Fairly interactive staff that pops in on forums and does their best to keep the player base involved by asking for feedback. Also hosts twitch streams with update information and provides extensive patch notes.
    • Very customizable UI if you are on PC with a huge amount of public supplied add-ons for the game providing helpful information, custom layouts, timers and notifications, custom chat, maps, lists, auction house and more.

Downsides i'm sure you don't need a list because lots of people already listed those, buuut:
    • PVP can get laggy
    • PVP can be unbalanced class-wise (this is constantly changing)
    • there are some bugs, exploits and broken skills that haven't been fixed for a very long time

If you can get past the few annoying things with the game you will enjoy your time here. Overall I think you get more than your money's worth for your investment, even if you eventually get annoyed with the bugs.

They mentioned that on the heels of, "very korean grindfest like." I started having Archeage ptsd and wiped it from consideration.
