Console Text Based Chat

I realize this has been discussed on here before, I've recently started the game (around a week ago) and the most frustrating thing has got to be the lack of communication available via console.

I'm using a PS4 and a thing which every basic MMO has is the ability to talk to people via keyboard for services, trading, help and other things. I can't think of a reason it's not here and I think this needs to be implemented as soon as possible to add more of a community spirit in the game. I do have a MIC and I plugged it in last night to find no one actually uses it so I can't communicate with anyone without minimizing the game and typing a message out via PSN.

Great game so far but this is just frustrating.

so....many tend to get upset when I reply on these topics BUT....

This is something ZOS is working on and they've not set a time-frame....only a suggested 2016 time stamp.
I will say this...there are lots of ways to communicate within and outside the game. I understand coming from traditional MMO's you and others are use to a chat box but this game was never set to have a chat box on consoles. It was in development and then scrapped in early development. Maybe the old typical chat box comes....but then again...per older ESO Lives it could be something completely different as they said..IF it comes, it wont be whats on PC.

Hopefully more to come from ZOS.....take care and happy gaming.
Its a lot of fun to have and a lot of new possibilities exist.

As long as its optional on then I'm fine played plenty of MMO's where text chat was just super annoying I would tend to stay away from hub or city areas just so I didn't have to read all the posted garbage.
Xbox One - NA GT: RebornV3x
I also play on PC from time to time but I just wanna be left alone on there so sorry.

I agree with the OP , text chat is in all MMO kinda games and even on console like DCUO .
It's inimaginable that there's one on the pc version but not on the consoles , kinda lame because its an usefull tool and i actually hoped it would be in this patch i'm downloading right now
We also don't have actual combat or loot history tooltip , i mean we can't even see any yellow or red digits popping up when we hit an enemy as well that could be implemented in a text chat scroll along with a LFG and area chat tab .
I wonder why this wasn't in the game already for consoles at launch
It feels like consoles are not important for them , unfortunatly

Not going to get upset over a comment haha but I appreciate everyone's input and I mean if its available on PC my thoughts are why can't it be available to us console users. I don't think anyone should be penalized for how they prefer to play the game, I have a decent PC but I prefer to play the game on my console so feel that I should have the same options as PC users do, I agree there should be an option to disable it if it is implemented but even having a /PM feature would be great, I just can't see any major reasons why this has not been implemented yet.

I think cyrodiil defence would be immensely easier if this where a thing. Coordination would be easier then swapping chat channels or even being in a chat channel.

want to address the bolded there @NewBlacksmurf

•Enable text chat on consoles later this year to help players – if they wish – to communicate zone-wide with other players, have easier access to emotes, and be able to chat with others using text instead of voice.

This will be optional, and we will continue to fully support voice chat on console as the primary means of communication this comes from the news post at the beginning of the year. it is coming just later this year. a lot of people belive it will be along with the DB dlc. but it will be this year for sure according to the news thread :)

other than that I agree with what you said just not the if part ;)

    Welcome to ESO Obliterate!

Luckily for you, those who came before you fought a 2 year battle and after hundreds if not thousands of pages of arguments on these forums ---- the game director in January of this year finally conceded and said that text chat is coming this year. It was a messy messy argument if you wish to go back and look up the threads

I found on Xbox the majority are using the microphones but it's much quieter on the ps4. Maybe because they only included the cheapest nastiest mic/headset with it.

Switch to Xbox if you want to talk to players.

Before this goes down the same path that most of these threads follow...

Its not me against anyone having text chat nor is it me saying that it wont ever come.

All I've ever shared is based on what ZOS shared and the logic I had behind what they've shared.

If they do something different than anything they've publicly shared...its not me fighting or me being wrong.
Its just that ZOS changed their mind.

Lets avoid this stuff as its not helpful and the topic has nothing to do with me.

oh no I agree it is very vague not arguing that point. I also remember seeing somewhere from some dev quote that it wouldn't be like what PC players have as well. But it will be some sort of text chat this year that we can talk with players zone wide. and hopefully guilds/ groups as well that's all that matters to me :)

And ofc can be disabled for those who do not want to use it is fine by me also. I want to think it will be different I just wonder how they will manage to make it different while being zone wide. at first I thought text bubbles but would get distracting and couldn't see it zone wide so idk what they will do :)

Yep as discussed in many other threads, there are a number of forum members who really desire this method of communication on consoles.

You kinda need...not you...ZOS really needs to work at better presenting ideas visually. Its like telling the community that you're adding DLC.....with no details (all too familiar)

you are a very agreeable person again agreed they should announce more details than they do. saying hey text chat but its not going to be like pc isn't a big help on what it will be like. But I think if they gave specifics before they test out some ideas they would kick themselves in the face if it doesn't work out and they change their mind on how it works. because the players would be more irritated thinking they are getting one thing and instead get something completely different. so I think some vagueness is ok to keep us in suspense but as it unravels they should let us know what's going on with some updates on it.

other than that I agree with what you said just not the if part ;)

Sure...but you it can't be addressed alone as the sentence works as one, based on how that information was shared with us all on ESO Live way-back. I thought it was important to go back and listen again....

starting around 1:21:01 or so......Then in another Episode we hear more...

starting around 0:58:00 or so....going on for a while to 1:07:00....more context

    BUT to answer your question...
during one of the shows, they specifically respond to us asking if text chat will ever come..."it wont be like whats on PC"

That response is confusing as heck...and considering the year ahead article just throws it out there with not details or info...I'm like so what are you actually offering?

oh no I agree it is very vague not arguing that point. I also remember seeing somewhere from some dev quote that it wouldn't be like what PC players have as well. But it will be some sort of text chat this year that we can talk with players zone wide. and hopefully guilds/ groups as well that's all that matters to me :)

Well....in the industries I work in today....its called "noncommittal" and that's not a term any company wants attached to their products.

so....many tend to get upset when I reply on these topics BUT....

Its a lot of fun to have and a lot of new possibilities exist.

want to address the bolded there @NewBlacksmurf

there are many things a company doesn't want to be attached to(as far as things like this go) but hey all we can do till they announce it is wait and see. they did well with the combat text so it should be great for the text chat however they do it :)
