Where do I even begin?

I love my Orc DK. It is the only character I have ever played (since beta). It's my playstyle. It is who I am. I will always play a stamina DK no matter what the current flavor of the month is. If you have never DK Dunked a peasant, you have not lived yet!

Take Flight is by far the most epic ultimate in the game. Jumping into keeps or bombing a zerg is so satisfying sometimes I have to walk away and change my loincloth.

Take Flight is more than an ultimate, it is a status of how Pain Train you are at PvP. It is the bread and butter of a stamina DK. The low cost, the range and the burst gives a stamina DK a quick return on resources to sustain itself in all scales of PvP.


The Problems:
  • Hit Ultimate - Nothing Happens.
  • Hit Ultimate - Missfires, costing ultimate and nothing happens
  • Hit Ultimate - Peter Pan Wings Fly out of your Feet - Only positive is you can roleplay as a four winged DK with reflective scales (Thanks for that ZOS).

Regarding this last point, I cannot tell you how many times I have heard a developer say directly to me in stream or on podcast that this was fixed over the last two years. Own up to your faults and take control of the situation. If the ability doesn't work as intended, they say it. Don't lie to us.

  • Hit Ultimate - Land on a Target, they dodge roll inside of the AoE. Take no damage or knockback.
  • Hit Ultimate - Target Streaks away, takes damage but no knockback (even without immovable or blocking)
  • Hit Ultimate - Target Cloaks, takes no damage or knockback but is still inside the radius of the AoE.
  • Hit Ultimate - Target Passively Evades with shuffle, taking no damage or knockback while still inside the AoE.
  • Hit Ultimate (Mid-Air) - Feared by NB underneath causing DK to stand running in place at point of impact.
For the last several months, I have been keeping track of how many Take Flights actually land and could be considered "working as intended." The succesful land rate I calculated is 11.7% (this is from recording over 2,560 Take Flights). This is an unacceptable success rate for an ultimate ability, especially one as vital as Take Flight for a stamina DK.

The Solutions:
  • *Make Take Flight a true AoE* <-- This ZOS. This is all you need to do.

    What do I mean by this? If you can make an ultimate like meteor unreflectable, which I'm ok with, why not make Take Flight undodgeable? Now I am not saying unblockable, this is different. From my understanding, if you are sitting inside of the area of effect in an AOE, you should take some kind of effect.
  • Make Take Flight an area cast with diminishing damage. The further from the point of impact, the less damage a target takes. This builds off of the previous point.
  • Increase the damage of Take Flight similar to the increase in damage for Critical Charge. If I hit you with a Take Flight from Maximum Range, the Damage should be more than an upclose Take Flight.
  • Increase the radius of the AoE. (self-explanatory)
  • Hit Ultimate - Give DK Immunity to All effects until the animation is over at the point of impact. I want to be clear that this is not a buff given after the Take Flight lands but only gives protection while flying through the air towards the intended target.

The main take away here is when I cast my ultimate I want it to do SOMETHING. If they block it, so be it. But I don't believe having an ultimate do absolutely nothing on a target is working as intended. If you are inside the radius of the point of impact, regardless if you are the intended target for the Take Flight, some effect should be felt.

*This next idea do not take seriously but oh my Krotha could you imagine if it were real*

Hit Ultimate - Take Flight Damage Increases as more ultimate is stored on the DK. 1000 ultimate cost Take Flight should get you into the 20k club or atleast one shot an outpost.


Yes corrosive armor is another option. But let's be real. We all would rather dunk then become a glorified punching bag.

Last Note:

Aoe Caps - Remove them. Seriously, remove them. How many players who have been with the game since the beginning need to scream this point. We know PvP. We love PvP. We live in PvP. Remove AoE Caps. (I really just wanna have a 20 person Dunk, but can you blame me?)

Playing my stamina DK over the past two years has been a true roller coaster ride. Each new patch provides a new challenge to adjust my stamina DK but with the current state of stamina builds and how limp and gimp Take Flight is becoming, I felt that this post was absolutely neccesary.

I will never stop playing my stamina DK. You cannot make me! I am not going anywhere, I am here for the long haul ZOS.

If you do not address this issue, I cannot assure the health and safety of the tables or vehicles you own. They will be flipped, and they will be dunked.

    I had to remove reflect and take flight from my bars. Probably will just run meteor now on my DK which is sad.

    Don't give in brother. Meteor is a cop-out. Keep the DK hand firm.

    Went for the flawless dawnbreaker, instead of my beloved take flight which sucks... i thought it was lag.... now i kno its gotten more buggy...

    PEOPLE should also not be able to hold me down from a few crappy arrows at my feet, this is taking flight damn it. Its even more annoying when sorcs even though they are ROOTED they can still STREAK but I cannot USE MY ULTIMATE? The one ultimate that scales correctly off of weapon damage and physical damage?

    Meteor is an Ultimate that follows you around but you'd think you'd be able to use those wings to guide yourself better.... yet METEOR is undodgable but take flight isnt?

    Dragon leap is one of the strongest ultimates in the game for stam builds already. I kinda like the defensive mechanics you can use against it such as streak as it provides counterplay. If you dont want the ult to be negated then leap in front of their face so they cant get out. Tho it shouldnt be cloakable if you are still within the AOE.
    Overload rework. Power Overload now does physical damage and grants you the power of a tornado: You throw a brick at the target with a light attack, and you hammer your head into that brick with every heavy attack. We have decreased its Ultimate cost, but increased the chance that you get stuck in the animation.

    Used to be. Now it scales of max stam more than wp damage. Now i just slot meteor and it does more damage and also dosent bug out.

    What about all those people using the 1 hit instant kill combo crit charge ----> wrecking blow

    Happens occasionally. No where near as buggy as gap closers now but far more annoying when ur ult bar drops to 0 and ur DK has wings on his feet and nth happens. Nth to do with L2P. Just a bug in the codes. Like 80% of the other issues in this game. ETA on fix prolly in about half a year.

    As for the other changes OP brought up I dont think thyre needed. I just want take flight to work like its supposed to instead of occasionally bugging out.

    My Take Flight will sometimes do absolutely nothing and also consume a fraction of my total ultimate... leaving me having to regen more ult before I can cast again and hope it works for real.

    The wings on my feet are always comical as well.

    A lot of these are cool suggestions, but I don't think take flight needs to be made any stronger than it already is. Set up right it's still one of the hardest hitting skills in the game. Its in a tier of its own, making it undodgeable wouldn't be very balanced. It even has the charge snare now which is nice. The bugs with this skill though have got to be fixed. Often Stam DKs rely on take flight for a quick kill, CC, or resource return and this alone is the game changer in many fights. It is a defining skill for the Stam DK playstyle and nothing is more frustrating than having it bug out in a tense fight.

    Interesting thoughts. I don't play my stamDk super often, but Take Flight hasn't ever failed on me, and I've never noticed problems with it when used against me. That ult is SO good, it smashes my Templar house to smithereens.

    I really hate the idea of scaling ultimates based on how much ult you have stored. It's necessary for Overload, but everything else needs predictable damage.

    I do like your suggestion on reducing damage at greater radius and also increasing damage by distance traveled. The old Wrecking Blow -> Take Flight -> Executioner is a little too effective IMO.

    Lastly, you should be immune to fear and similar effects while leaping, for sure, but when I chuck my Javelin into your face with godlike strength, you are going to sit your @ $ $ down! Lol.

    Its bugged since TG launch. Doesn't trigger properly most of the time and when it does it only tickles people.

    Just imagine how much people would get upset if Soul tether was bugged and didn't work. I mean those poor NB'S couldn't get 6 kills per ULT if this was a thing.
    Or how about streak not working properly JUST like Stamped/critrush.oh the horror. There would be floods of the poor FOTM players to the forums to fill buckets with tears.
    But it's ok that stam DK'S ULT fails to work as intended.......

    At least you can solo dunk a group of so and do AMAZING THINGS, when I works properly of course. Templar have...nova, our "synergy" ultimate, its a mini *** SUN....and it doesn't stun on impact, doesn't do burst on impact, and unless you're a *** and stand inside of it, you don't even realize it hurts. Our spear ultimate is GARBAGE, the skill requires that you stay on top of your target which most of the time requires a gap closer that NEVER works. Good luck fighting a sorc with it! All they need to do is bring back ALL of the damage in one smack, no dot, and increase the range, and the morph, instead of being a mother defensive option, should maybe be a single target ranged option like a supped up javelin...yeah fix DK ultimate please, then fix templar

    No even when it works the damage is way down. .. not only does the thing not go off but the damage is horrid atm... I have stopped playing my stam dk because of a large decrease in my spike damage...
