Question about Hel-Ra Hard Mode Final Boss (PS4)

I've completed this many times on the PS4 and as a tank, but only recently have I noticed something concerning. According to everyone I play with, the dmg buff circle is strictly for the 12 people fighting the boss and not the boss himself. However, on more than one occasion during one trial I decided to bring him into the circle so he could break the statue behind me easier..... rather than keep him just outside of it. Even with all my buffs, shields, ally bonus' and while holding block he instantly one shot me with a standard melee attack. The same attack outside of the circle did no damage at all. I also noticed that if I started outside of the circle and tanked his initial attack and then brought him inside the circle the same attack did nothing. So the question is does the dmg buff circle buff the boss ' FIRST ATTACK in hard mode? Can someone else please test this and let me know. Thanks.
