Low FPS, High ping - is it my sys or the game?

Hey all,
I have been having a whole lot of FPS/Ping issues since the DLC patch, and even more so since the recent mini patches. Today in Maw, I was getting between 7 and 12 FPS, with ping averaging around 450+, sometimes going up to 999+, and sometimes down to about 230 ish. It was like watching a slide show. The game would also freeze up for several seconds as well.

I was wondering if you could take a look at my DxDiag and tell me if it's my system, or if it's the game. I am posting my results below, hopefully in "spoiler" format. I have never done that before, so if it doesn't work, I will try to fix it.

    I can't help any with the high ping issue, but something that you should check for the FPS issue is to see if the game is being handled by your APU (A8 3820) or your dedicated video card (Nvidia 660Ti). If you're resolution is really 1024x768 (which is super low for 2016) your 660Ti should be able to handle it easily on High settings with 30-60 FPS in non CPU bound scenarios.

    You can check it by accessing your NVIDIA Control Panel (right click on desktop). Then go to Manage 3D Settings and then Program Settings. You can Add a new program and it should bring up your recently used games, apps etc.. Choose eso.exe and/or eso64.exe and select to use the High Performance adapter (or something similar) and NOT the Integrated or Auto Select option.
    Semi retired from the trading aspects of the game.

    it's not on your end. don't stress out about it. it's the garbage servers they run and tend to screw up every time they do a patch / maintenance.

    don't even bother with support because they will just ask you for your specs then tell you to upgrade.

    Ok, I added ESO to the "Manage 3D Settings" box. When I select ESO from the drop down menu, here is what I get for options:

    I have over 600 hours on this game most in which i get 60 fps / 130 ping. My computer is below requirements for this game but I run it mainly for ESO, so it runs fine. Almost better than some people I play with that have HAL9000 super computers. When the ping goes above +400 that will drop your frame rate / FPS causing the game to lag and be unplayable. It also has a lot to do with high capacity of people on the servers that cause it to lag. So the fact that ping is rising over 400 and your internet is running fine is a clear indication it is server side. From my experience of playing ESO the ping will usually calm down after a day or two. Like I said don't stress out about it and do all these stupid fixes they run you around with if the game was properly working. If the problem persists than and only than would I suggest an upgrade.

    Thanks b0g, I appreciate your response. I am not really sure which is worse - problem being on my end or problem being server side. If it's on my end, I would have to spend money but at least I could correct the problem relatively quickly. If it's server side, I have no control over it what so ever, and I have to wait for them to fix it. Not happy about either option, really.

    Is the option you mentioned listed here? Also, would it help performance if I got a secondary monitor with the same specs as my main monitor?

    After looking around some I believe that particular option in the NVIDIA Control Panel is only available for devices with Intel processors and Nvidia video cards. Something you could do to see if it is using your dedicated video card would be to run a program such as MSI Afterburner and use it's on screen overlay to see if it is putting a load on your video card or not. If other games are working well for you now it is probably on Zos' end (and with the other people having similar problems chances are high it is on their end not yours).

    Thanks so much! I will try that program and see if it helps!

    One other thing - I found a post on this forum made by someone with a similar problem. It had to do with Nvidia's latest driver being buggy and the OP reverted his driver back, which helped him. I did the same thing and now I don't seem to be having that horrible lag any more. I haven't had a chance to test it out in a trial, but that may have fixed my issues.

    Hi,

    I had the same issue yesterday evening and never had this problem before yesterday's patch. The issue begins when the fight is starting. There is just no movement, the screen freezes and no action is possible to do.
    I don't think it's the server because no-one else of my raid (12-men) had this issue.

    My PC is: Win10 64bit, 16GB Ram, R9 290 4GB GDDR5 video card, 256 SSD,... so it's not because my PC is badly equiped.

    Really hope this issue will be fixed soon. My guildies count on me :(

    Thanks. I changed Multi-display/mixed to single display and Power management mode to Maximum performance and that helped a lot.

    I think I see in spoiler that "Driver Date/Size: 3/8/2016", and considering the latest issues with newest nVidia drivers, multi monitor setups etc I would suggest a change to older drivers and I can recommend series 353.xx (I use 353.06 from 2015.05.31).

    On my desktop PC with i5, 8GB, GTX660Ti, a.m drivers and quite high settings without grass and low shadows I play ESO in native full HD resolution on 27" screen with 100 FPS (50 in cities) and ~80ping. Connecting to megaserver from Eastern Europe so the readings are quite nice I think :).

    999+ readings are usually ZOS server related issues.
