EDIT: Also, Alligators are much angrier than crocodiles, as I recall.

The main way I remember it is that crocodiles have some teeth on both jaws that show on the outside when their mouth is closed and alligators lower jar teeth are all on the inside so you'll only see a few on the upper jaw when their mouth is closed. (If you're close enough to see that, but their mouth is open then either they're in an enclosure and there should be a sign to tell you or you have other things to worry about right now.)

Crocodiles also have a narrower snout that has a rounded 'bulb' on the end (which goes outwards slightly) while an alligators is wider and a more uniform shape. But I tend to find that harder to spot in most species than the teeth. It also varies with species and individuals, as does their behaviour, so there's not really any way to say if a crocodile is more aggressive or more dangerous than an alligator.

The ones in ESO definitely look like crocodiles, although in a game where leopards are the same size and shape as tigers I wouldn't be at all surprised if they were alligators.

this is accurate as well as alligators have webbed rear feet where as crocs don't. alligators don't generally go in salt water like crocs do because the *** in their mouth that would get rid of the salt in the water doesn't work in alligators like it does with crocs.

It depends on the species. I think saltwater crocodiles are the biggest out of both families, but there are other species which are much smaller.

I suspect most people think crocodiles are bigger because the most well known species (IMO the saltwater crocodile, Nile crocodile and American crocodile) are also amongst the biggest of the whole family.

the info I wrote was used from a site comparing the two it didn't necessarily address the specific variations of crocs and alligators it was more general speaking. generally crocs are bigger and heavier with a v shaped nose not webbed feet and live longer their lower 4th tooth is the one that is visibly seen while its mouth is closed. where as alligators have a u shaped nose like a shovel with an "over bite" which hides its teeth while its mouth is closed. they have webbed hind legs less aggressive live shorter lives. in the site I visited It said Australian crocs are the biggest they reach "20 ft in length and weigh over 1,000 kg (about 2,200 pounds)"......"largest of their species The American alligator is the larger of the two species of alligator and typically ranges from 6-12 ft but can grow up to 19 ft. The Chinese alligator is smaller, typically about 5 ft with a maximum length of about 7 ft.." so generally crocs still are larger at the largest they can be. but you know your stuff bud I read it this morning and visited it just now for those quotes I put up. @Danikat

As a (North)Floridian, I can assure you, fake or not, you will respect them.

These are all over the waters here.

Boating is one of my hobbies, and while I prefer to go out in the Gulf or Atlantic, we do a large amount of time in fresh water. You *always* have to be wary.

That said, the ones in ESO are labeled as Crocs, but when I see them, I think "Alligator". They look more like Gators to me.
