Why aren't achievemetns account wide?

They certainly should be. I'm an achievement nut and plan on getting all the achievements in the game. I plan to do this all on my main character but to do this would take years on just one character and I want to be able to play other characters as well. Also for example I killed thousands and I mean thousands of mud crabs for the polished shell shard but when I hop on one of my other low level characters I kill like 3 because they were in my way and get it. Achievements should def be shared account wide, and I really don't see why they are not.

It split up the community, theres lots of people who are saying it should and lots of people are against it. I personally think theres no happy medium so it stays like this.

I really don't understand the people who say it shouldn't be. A lot of us are working people or have families and can't play 12 hours a day. One character to get all achievements is hard as it is, specially with dlc dropping every 4 months, but if it was spread across all your characters it would be easier to obtain. Also it would still take a REALLY REALLY REALLY LONG TIME.

Also when people cry and want things nerfed and other people don't want it nerfed they still do it anyways. So I don't really see the issue.

    Not this again...
...couldn't people use the search function and add to the dozends of other "gimme" threads?

Achievements should never be account wide. The only thing account wide from them should be the dye unlocks, and those are. Everything else is entirely optional, and a measure of what -this particular character- has done or not done. Which shyshards -this particular character- has found or yet to find. Which crafting styles -this particular character- has learned or yet to learn. What public dungeon bosses -this particular character- has vanquished or yet to stomp. Which parts of the questing -this particular character- has done or yet to do. Et cetera.

Achievements are not a player-based gamerscore, they are character-based measure for that particular characters advancement. And there is no logical reason AT ALL for them to be account wide. Take the titles for example... if your father's brother's nephew's cousin's former roommate wins an inofficial all-tamriel fisherman competition and can proudly call himself "master angler", does that mean you can make the same claim? No, it wouldn't. So why should that alt of yours when your main makes the achievement???
As for those who may come with the "but... I as player am doing it" - whose head does the title float above, your characters, or yours as player?

Yes, some achievements are a real pain to do. Yes, the trophy ones are among them...
...used to be, if you found that polished shell on your alt, you could bank it, and take it on your main for adding to collection. ZOS changed that, to make it harder, to make your alt have to spend the time and effort hunting hundreds of mudcrabs for that shell instead. Obviously this is how they envision achievements to work - individually.

I'm aware that the community is split up over this. I do agree with you fully. I simply don't have the time to hunt achievements on all characters. I have all pvp stuff with my sorc, the full questing stuff done with my DK. And now I simply just quit doing them all together...

Now I'm sure there are other possibilities then what is being done now. It would be possible to make the achievement points account wide. If you click on an achievement you can see which of your characters got it. Also the achievements which require multiple other ones should all be done by one character, so to get the ultimate trial achievement I'd still have to do all hard modes on ONE character.

This way people can get them all on one character (or not) depending on what they want themselves. I can just get everything PVP related with my sorc, and all the other stuff with my DK. It would even be possible perhaps to show "character achievement points" and "account achievement points" in the achievements screen. I wouldn't be bothered to get everything on one character but would be happy to get everything on my account.

Anyway, this would make sure I would be bothered to do achievements again, probably playing more then I do now. I'm sure there are people who agree (and people who don't). IMO this is best of both worlds.

As long as the dying colors stay account wide, I'm happy. And now that I have mentioned that, I am sure ZOS will get right on making them character exclusive.

    My thought's,

I can see both sides of this argument and it is this that provides the solution.

Achievements should be split, any that award a title or are considered epic ie dungeon clears, no deaths ect should be individual. Any that are specific and build or craft orientated ie vampire/werewolf skill line, master crafter or collections/kills should be shared.

Lol people who don't have jobs or family who don't mind spending 5+ years for achievements because they have the free time. I miss being 15.
