Need Help w/ Templar Tank/ Heal Hybrid

c.p.garrett1993_ESO
Alright, so I quit for awhile and I'm getting back into the game after several months.

I want to run something a little different, focusing on a mixture of tanking and healing. The DPS would be crap, I'm sure, but that's not really an issue I would imagine. Tanking is going to require a lot of health, and healing would take a decent amount of magicka.

I was thinking I'd run 1H & shield for tanking. I don't particularly care for staffs, but I think it's going to pretty much be required I run a restoration staff on the second bar. I was thinking probably a 2:1:0 for health, magicka, and stamina would be moderately effective, but I honestly don't know enough about the game to say for sure.

I was going to makeup on missing stamina with tons of passives, using an Imperial and mostly medium armor. What would be my best bet for making this feasible? Or is it a viable build at all?

Thanks in advance!

    Well, there's a couple options.
    7 Heavy: More tankiness
5 heavy, 2 light: Less tanky, more magicka, 2% increase to all stats
5 Heavy 1 light 1 medium, Less tanky, more magicka and stamina, 4% increase to all stats.
5 light, 2 heavy: More magicka, a lot less tanky, 2% to all stats.

Personally I would go for 5 heavy and 2 light.

Just go Heavy or Light Armor, either one you choose(probably heavy). I don't think you want medium armor as a magicka tank.

I won't run a medium armor for a magicka tank/heal (or maybe just one part for the undaunted passive ?). For the attribute, depends how much hp you get with your gear/passives/food at v16. You'll probably need to have 29/30k hp at v16, when you reach that, put your point into magicka (i think you won't need any point into HP, my bf reached that amount without any point in HP). For the stamina you can get them with glyphs and/or accessories.
I play all Healers in endgame content but my main is my Khajiit Nightblade.

Well the reason I was thinking that is because I know I'll need stamina buffs, but I won't be investing in stamina at all. Without some kind of stamina buffs wouldn't that prevent me from tanking as efficiently?

So what would be the best gear to use? Light? Heavy? Or some combination thereof?

    Yes.
The issue is that medium armor doesn't help tanking that much. You've got stamina cost reduction, and stamina regeneration. Cost reduction won't help you at all, and stamina regeneration, while it may be useful to some degree, is not exactly a priority because you can't regenerate stamina while blocking.

Makes sense. So would you recommend light, heavy, or a combination?

For your armor/weapon sets you'll probly want to go with Armor Master and Lamae. Either one with a 5 piece would be good and a 4 piece on the other.

The wiki below doesn't have the updated Thieves Guild sets but the ones mentioned above is what most of the tanks get currently.

Unless you're planning on tanking trial bosses, I wouldn't bother with heavy armor. I can tank/heal pretty much any dungeon, but for some that's going to be a bit trickier (like Molag Kena). For the vast majority of cases, you'll be fine without any heavy, however, it wouldn't hurt to do 5L / 2H as suggested above. That would be my #2 choice.

If you do 5 pieces of Armor Master in light, you won't need any heavy at all. Just keep Harness Magicka on your bar and your resistances will be just fine for almost all content. You might be a little too squishy for Mantikora and I'm certain you will be too squishy for vMoL.

So what would be your first choice? If I did want to tank trial bosses, if it's even possible, what would be better? Or should I just be a dedicated healer on that content?
