How to launch eso64.exe with Launcher

Open a Command Prompt as Admin. Go to the directory containing eso64.exe. For me the directory 'client'. Execute:
ren eso.exe eso.exe.bak
mklink eso.exe eso64.exe
Done.

Nothing dangerous here, it's just this:

ren = rename ".bak" is often used for "backup". It's just a simple rename.
mklink = make link It creates a link. If a program looks for eso.exe (which is gone since you renamed it) it will
    find eso64.exe instead.

Keep in mind that after every update or repair there will be a "new" eso.exe so you have to rename it again.

Thanks for the tip, but what's the point ? It's not hard to launch it manually.
Furthermore, some of the people who will follow your "advice" will not know how to reverse it and will probably experience huge problems when the launcher will be updated to choose automatically what version of the .exe will be started.

So my personal advice is : DON'T DO THAT.

If you want 64-bit ESO, launch it manually.

It's just complete laziness that ZOS can't put a simple checkbox on their launcher for us to specify which exe to launch. Pure laziness.

    Nothing dangerous here

It's much ado about nothing, + will have to be reversed soon anyway.

And it can completely f*** up the repairing / updating / version checking functions and such. Just avoid.

Haha and I wanted to say:

    - a link to the 64 bit exe
    - Rename it to ESO Launcher

Your idea seems to be better

I would definitely AVOID doing this! As @anitajoneb17_ESO mentioned above, it could cause major problems with the launcher itself as there is clearly a reason, which only ZOS knows, as to why the launcher is set to the 32-bit version. You don't need the launcher to play the game, and in fact, it is best to launch the game directly from the .exe file itself unless there is an update to be downloaded. It is easy enough to just create a shortcut on your Desktop from the .exe files without tampering with the function of the Launcher itself.

All you have to do is just right click on eso64.exe and select "create shortcut". Drag that shortcut out onto your desktop, task bar, quick launch, where ever, and use it to launch the 64-bit client. It's basically the same thing as having to click "launch" in the launcher. Plus no matter how many times the client gets updated, your shortcut will always function. It's one and done. I open the launcher and let it check for patches, and then click my shortcut for the 64-bit client instead of clicking "launch".

I prefer to open the game without the launcher anyway. Since the launcher doesn't close once you run the game and it sits there taking resources.

This is exactly the reason why it's best to create a shortcut from the .exe file to Desktop. There is absolutely no reason to run the game from launcher unless there is a patch or update to download.

Exactly. And even then I immediately close the launcher window once I click play.

The only problem is that after downloading the new 64 bit client, setting up a shortcut on my desktop and playing nicely... I got caught out when ZOS did a couple of sneaky patches. Client fires up nicely, I attempt to login... only to be told I'm running the wrong version.

I prefer to use the launcher, since that does updates. Haven't had updates since the link, so don't know what'll happen. We''l see. And hey peeps: it's your machine, so you do to it what you want done. No pressure from me if you don't want it. That's also why I made the instructions terse: If they spook you, they are not for you.

    Just sayin.

I just right-clicked on eso64.exe and selected 'pin to task bar'. If there is an update to the client and you use this shortcut to launch the game it will not let you log-in and will tell you that you have an old version of the client. If this happens you can just run the launcher to update and after locate eso64.exe again and re-pin to taskbar.

Ok, if you're running into the 0xc000007b error, please download this update from Microsoft (the new Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package), then manually launch ESO64.exe.
