That way has not been paved yet, though. Instructions on how to actually do that were sparse and unclear last time I checked. It is also unfeasible on notebooks despite, remarkably, notebooks routinely have two GPUs.

EDIT: also note that (and it seems to be mentioned in the above video) you likely need two monitors and separate input device(s) too.
So, that approach has quite a few constraints. Frankly, until KVM/QEMU people figure out how to provision GPU to a guest and somehow magically eat its framebuffer and pass it back to host's GPU to display, it is less appealing than an extra gaming machine (which has rather low appeal to begin with).

EDIT: I just dicovered this. Darling is a translation layer that allows you to run unmodified OS X binaries on Linux. In its nature, it is similar to the well-known Wine project.

Not to spread FUD, but...OS X binaries use the same OpenGL that was just axed on PC.

This being MMO of 2015 makes this whole thing look real shady to me. I wonder if Microsoft has anything to do with this decision. Haha maybe ZOS will remove dx11 once dx12 is ready.

@ZOS_GinaBruno please tell us why so important change as deleting Opengl for Pc client was not added to any patchnotes?

I'm going to test it out in a few weeks

I almost purchased a 6 month membership this last weekend. I'm really glad that I tried to log in to the game first! Please bring back the OpenGL Windows client, I can't play with the D3D11 one!

They switched to DX11 with a month of warning.
    DirectX 11 Upgrade
We have upgraded the ESO graphics engine to be DirectX 11 specific.
You will no longer be able to launch or run the DirectX 9 version of the game.
We will no longer support graphics cards and operating systems that are not compatible with DirectX 11.
This will allow us to implement new graphics features only possible with the removal of DirectX 9, as well as improve the overall performance of the engine.

This is about OpenGL not DX9, no where in those patch notes does it say they are removing OpenGL for PCs nor in any other posting that I am aware of. They gave advanced warning only of removing DX9 and half-heartedly at that.

"We will no longer support graphics cards and operating systems that are not compatible with DirectX 11." this quote isn't even accurate as they are still supporting Mac OS (using OpenGL) and they never supported linux. In case it's not clear they aren't being asked to support linux, only a OpenGL option for PCs.

That statement doesn't leave it clear if they're referring to graphics APIs in general or just versions of DirectX. They then state in the bullet points that "You will no longer be able to launch or run the DirectX 9 version of the game.", while making no mention of OpenGL, which leads to the impression that they meant the latter.

Additionally when asked to give a direct answer on whether they deliberately removed OpenGL from the PC client a moderator was unable to answer. Something one would expect them to know if this was a straightforward policy.

Molly can you just answer one question yes or no. Are you forcing DX11? I think if you check you will find that you are forcing DX11 so that OPENGL cannot work because only DX11 can work.
    ZOS_MollyH wrote: »
    Hey @Billtheman ,

Unfortunately we don't have that information available. All we can provide at this time are the supported system specs, and that Wine/Linux environments are not nor have they ever been a supported OS.

They have probably discovered that OpenGL code does not compile to 64bit binaries on Windows and the creepy guy who used to roam hallways, talking to himself about "single digit efpeees", before slashing his wrists, was the OpenGL programmer, not a janitor.

It seems people from Zeni somehow missed this post and failed to give an answer.

Since the game won't run anyway, I am not risking to much by trying to enable vocabulary trigger to bring this to their attention. In advance I apologize.

    The question thus being:
Can we have OpenGL back, if yes, when, if no, why?

    And the trigger:

I got the feeling my game wont run because of this opengl it used to be a fix to a crash i keep getting at the character loading screen and now I cant change it to opengl so donno i got a gtx650ti should support both so it must be a software issue considering a refund.

I know this is dated, but I just wanted to mention that OpenGL is done and over...The future of OpenGL is now Vulkan and I doubt they're going to rewrite their entire engine to support it...Perhaps in 5 years they will when everything gets too dated to pass as acceptable?

OpenGL and DR9 were what this game was intended to run on and quite frankly it works better on them.

The performance of this game took a steady downward spiral from Thieves guild onward, when they removed support for these drivers. Reinstate the thing that gave us less performance issues, you ruined the game on a fundemental level when you removed these.
