Best way to escape and pickpocket guards???

Is there a method to the madness of escaping a guard and pickpocketing them? I barely escaped today and I jumped in the water with a bridge in orsinium and got away. Also how can one best pickpocket a guard and is it worth it?

When going on a serious looting or pickpocketing run I change my gear to 5x Night's Silence (no sneak penalty) and skills to include:
- cloak,
- double take (40% speed boost whilst in sneak),
- retreating manoeuvre (prevents & gets out of snares whilst active),
- vigor (great heal)

If you're gonna pickpocket guards then make sure you're outside otherwise it's a lot harder to escape.
