What's With the Skin Tight Legging Fetish???

I may be going mad, but it looks to me like armour has been "remodelled" in a way that gives the appearance of everyone wearing skin tight leggings rather than protective armour.

The most ridiculous thing is when you see someone in heavy armour with an upper body ready to take some punishment and the lower half ready for ballet dancing.

Has anyone else noticed this?

Most of the chest and leg armor motifs are just textures that get applied over the character, they don't actually have their own geometry at all. Yeah, I've noticed it.

The new post IC stuff has it's own geometry, so it actually projects out from the character and looks like armor. But, ZoS has, apparently, said they have no interest in updating the old gear.

They are taking a modeling lesson from what all the teenage girls are wearing in school! At least they are keeping up with the current fashion trends. :)

Both chest and leg armor is just texture pasted onto the model of your character. If someone has the upper body 'ready to take some punishment and the lower half ready for ballet dancing' its because he designed his character to look as if hes been skipping leg day at the gym.

This is not correct, several upper-body armor pieces have their own geometry, though most seem to be very slight. Additionally, shoulder pieces and some forearm pieces have their own geometry. Finally, upper-body armor tends to have prominent tassets, adding a lot of size to the hips. All this combined leads to legs that can look extremely skinny when you're wearing one of the leggings-style pants. I find it weird in any armor type, but most especially for heavy armor. Boots have the same problem, so many of them are skin-tight or taper way too much. Even the bulky stuff, like Nord Heavy or Dunmer Medium have tiny little feet parts. It's quite unsettling.

I prefer wearing either light or medium armor for this very reason.Heavy seems to look painted on,while the other two types are sometimes a bit baggy.Leather trousers look like leather, not paint,as does the cloth trousers.

I'm probably the only light armor user with a preference for heavy legs as part of Undaunted passive. I used to have light breeches but everytime I was running I felt like my girl would trip off in her own clothing
I am the very model of a scientist Salarian, I've studied species Turian, Asari, and Batarian.
I'm quite good at genetics (as a subset of biology) because I am an expert (which I know is a tautology).
My xenoscience studies range from urban to agrarian, I am the very model of a Scientist Salarian.

I have two teenage daughters. If they made impenetrable jeggings, I'd get them six pairs each.

Made my tank full mercenary gear. Coloured it with the Molag bal dye.

My tank is now wearing gold leggings.

In many cases its bump mapping and not actually separate 3d models.

Yes, but the same goes for boots and pants.

The tassets add more to upper legs than to the torso or upper body. In some cases they actually cover up the skinny legs syndrome somewhat.
