Hi,
The new system is a nice catch-up system for people who started late into the game - up to the current cap of 500 you need only 60% of the required exp in comparison to the constant 400 k per CP version before (120 Mio exp vs. 200 Mio exp). In the final version, when the cap hits the maximum number of CP you can get - 3600, a newcomer will "only" need 872 million exp to reach 3600 CP compared to 1440 million exp - again 60%.
So while this system is giving newcomers an easier start, it curbs the enthusiam for grinding exp if you have more CP than the current cap - besides not having enlightenment after a little grinding, the required exp are doubled. So the sensible thing is to stop playing until the cap goes up again. Another thing is that with the current height of the cap you have to invest more time for grinding exp than people who have grinded more than about 440 CP before the new system got implemented - as the exp cost per CP is getting higher than 400 k at this number of CP.
Less grinding = less time spend on the game = less people to join a trial or daily or whatever
The gory numbers:
The current formula is ((TotalPoints / (Cap ^ 0.995)) + 0.085) * 400000 for getting the next CP - doubled, if you got to the cap value.
This can be rewritten in the form of a * x + b with a = 400 000 / (500 ^ 0.995) ~ 825 and b = 0.085 * 400 000 = 34000.
The required exp for n champion points can be calculated as a * n (n+1)/2 + n * b
In the previous system with a constant 400 k per CP, reaching 500 CP would take 500 * 400 k = 200 Mio Exp
In the current system, it would take about 120 Mio Exp - which is a great reduction. If you think about getting to the end of the CP system though, the calculation is different:
Old system: 3600 x 400 k = 1440 Mio Exp
New system: 5468 Mio Exp
