Should I make a Dark Elf or a Imperial Templar?

Hi there, I went and made a Dark Elf Templar to level 18, but people say they are bad and Berton or Imperial are much better.

I don't like the Berton so the choice is between the Dark Elf or The Berton, what is the better race for the long term?

I say imperial because as a dark elf, your fire damage bonus will be kinda wasted. If your only goal is pve, then any race will do

Magicka Imperial Templar is viable too, since it can combine with the hp regen from puncturing sweeps. Still, I also agree that there's currently no exciting future for templars.

Imperial is a universal choice if you didn't decide your role yet. But if you want to go magicka DD/Healer, then Dunmer/Altmer are best options for you.

There is nothing wrong with a Dunmer Templar and they do use the bonus to fire damage,

Check out Deltia's Gaming, he has a dunmer templar who pulls in excess of 20k DPS....

All classes can be played solo. If you want to be a templar, that is a fine choice. Templars can be tanks, DDs and healers.
You should decide, if you want to be a magicka or a stamina build. Stamina builds use dual wield, bow and two-handed weapons, while magicka builds tend to use more staves and have more self-healing.
Dunmer is ok for both kind of builds, but definitely not optimal. I would go for Altmer or Breton for magicka builds and Redguard or Imperial for stamina builds.

on one ability - everything else is magica dmg...

if you want to be a magica oriented templar play an altmer. bretons 3% reduced spell cost doesent work properly anymore with introduction of CS and its dimnishing returns on spell cost reduction compared to altmers 9% magica reg. even without dimnishing returns it is by far inferior (1500 spell cost - 3% vs 1800 magica reg + 9% what grants a better return?...)
you are drowning in spell resists anyway wearing light armor(or tanky heavy armor), so the breton spell resists is as usefull as the altmers 4% on each elemental dmg component.
while dunmer is complete garbage with 9% spelldmg increasdement when using fire attacks wich templars have one sun fire and thus are useless without any other magica bonus but the 6% max magica where bretons and altmer provide 10%.

so the magica race rating for templars is like: altmer>>breton >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>dunmer=imperials>all other races.

Dark Elf is fine the passive a for race do not make or break the game.

If you want to re-roll to see how one plays over the other give it a try and decide for yourself.
