HELP - Can't get to my character selection screen.

I have recently decided to try the game out again after a long time, and I was really excited to play... Then the endless loading screen of doom happened.
I can't get past it unless I put my settings on "Minimum" and it takes about 30 seconds to load. Once I'm in game, i try to turn the settings back up and the loading screen happens again. I'm not sure what's going on, and it's very frustrating! I know my PC can easily handle the graphics load at least on High.
Are there any fixes / work arounds to make it so I can enjoy this game?
